"Strategic voting" about the sickest thing I've heard of.

Harpo got in with 39% of the popular vote. That is not popular.

But more popular than the guys who trailed! :) :) :) There's probably 8 or 9 parties running, so 39% is still nothing to sneeze at.

The government regulates workplace safety. If it's the union's only job to concern itself with workplace safety, then they have an interest in politics.

Can you think of a product whose quality has been improved because of a Union presence?

What about 16%? That was the percentage of eligible voters who actually cast a ballot for the conservatives last go round. Can anyone really claim a majority and a true mandate from the masses with 16%?

Simply put more of the people that bothered to vote liked the Conservatives more than any other party. That does make a majority. All of the people that didn't vote must have also been in favor or they would have gone out and made some changes. And yes our system is flawed. If it worked properly the bloc would be banned and ellimay would not have a seat with intelligent people.

So who would you have given the mandate to? When you count the population of a town do you count the bodies in the cemetery?

Anyone who believes 16% (which is actually about 8% of the actual population) is a majority should give their head a shake.

Show us the math, Nick!

They won the election (though not without some skullduggery) under our current flawed system. That does not however mean they had the support of the majority of Canadians. They didn't even have a majority of those that voted. To me claiming a majority and a clear mandate under those circumstances is ludicrous and an insult to anyone's intelligence.

The ones who voted are the ONLY ones who count, Nick. There is VERY little excuse not to vote, short of possibly a person in hospital in a coma.

Actually I am warming up to the idea if we can obliterate the right.
They don't say who to vote for merely provide the name and party
in second place if we get behind the candidate we can destroy the
Tory party by bleeding its front bench remember this election is now
get Harper no matter who else you support.
I am looking forward to the last day of this guy on Monday and its
shaping up that way. I would no longer be unhappy to see even a
Trudeau majority if that's what it took

I meant "popular" in terms of what the people want? Not popular as in personality! Savvy?

Yes, and when people strategically vote, they effectively want a certain candidate to win their riding.

This wouldn't be a problem if we had proportional representation.

"Proportional representation was studied in depth several years. It was found to have the potential for creating more problems than it solved. I've long forgotten what the actual details were. Perhaps someone can help.
