Should there be a law against public institutions that lie for money?

Religions and many charitable organizations of all stripes make their revenues by lying to people.

Should we help protect the gullible by eliminating all the fraud that is being passed off as religion and charity?

Those who do not believe the lies being sold by religions and charities are presently subsidize the tax exemptions and credits that religions and charities enjoy. What they save in taxes, non-believers and those who actually want to give to charities must fork up.

I am not what most would call a non-believer, I am a Gnostic Christian, but still resent my hard earned tax money being used to perpetuate what most know are lies. If you are a non-believer, or one who wants your charitable donations to actually be used for charity, I hope you feel the same and do not like being fleeced the way the gullible are.

There ought to be a law against institution like religions and bogus charities that live off of lying to the gullible.

Do you agree?

French Patriot. I see both you and I dislike religious hustlers! Yay!

I think there should be laws enforcing honesty on anyone or any institution that receives public money or any charity organizations etc. As an ODSP recipient I make sure I pay my rent and buy food to eat before I buy anything else, as that is the main purpose. Some charities and public institutions lie about their expenses and often pay a lot to things they do not need, rather than most to necessities, it makes me sick and my dad as a taxpayer - even more sick.

So in short: "Yes".

I think all churches should pay property taxes and taxes on all materials that
are used in any form to promote the collection of money. They should be
tax exempt for all good works done for the poor.
Churches are a business not a public institution at all. it is time for them to pay up
And conform to the laws of the land like everyone else. No more exemptions for
any reason

There's lots of pastors which greatly profit. Believe me.

Born yesterday pastors. Born yesterday christians aren't Christians

Outside of the TV fraudsters, please point these out. You don't become rich by being a pastor in a neighbourhood church.

Real faiths take a vow of poverty and don't get paid. Born yesterday's pay themselves quiet nicely.

Religious institutions are too much a part of people's lives to remove their special status. In principle I'd agree that churches shouldn't be tax exempt and their claims should be scrutinized the same way commercial products are. But in practice it would be impossible and damaging to people's lives, communities and the social order. Let the people have their religion. It is in essence a part of the pursuit of happiness.

You are correct, the TV fraudsters are the worst and what I was talking about.

The Catholic Church is one of the most prosperous and rich institution in the world.

Being conned by professional liars is in essence a part of the pursuit of happiness.

Ok.

But why do those like me have to subsidize those liars when we do not see them adding anything to the happiness of others?

Dear Parrot please explain in full. What are they lying about?

Yours truly
Pedro de la Pradera

One of the first things a priest or imam will tell you is that God is unfathomable, unknowable and works in mysterious ways. Right?

They then turn and start reaming off the huge list of things that they fathom of the unfathomable and know of the unknowable.

They are obviously lying. Right?

The pursuit of happiness is a bit of a mystery.

Because the state says so and the state is supreme.

The state is a tool of the people and does what the people tell it to do. If it rules then we are all slaves.
