she got a copter ride because they could not diagnose her...

I look at it differently...they billed her, she chose not to pay...her child's life was not placed in jeopardy...I paid thousands out last year on a treatment that I needed that was not covered...

many cancer drugs aren't covered, dialysis at home isn't covered...lots of things aren't covered

I am grateful for the things that are

So you are a glass half covered type of gal?

This is one of the reasons why our heath care system is one of the worst (IMHO).

A brief google search showed me that there are many credit counseling and debt settlement services in Ontario and Quebec.

Maybe she should quit whining and do something about it.

it's all we have the money for and not even...I would love if we could cover everything but ambulances are even a blip on the radar

when our system is managed better we will cover better...hopefully it will keep improving

If it is an emergency, it should be covered. In this case the doctors decided it was an emergency so it should have been covered. I agree if somebody calls an ambulance for a runny nose they should be expected to pay for it.

It's actually the other way around. If it is an emergency and they transport you to hospital, you get a bill. If an ambulance is called, and you don't go to the hospital, there is no charge.

I think it should be the other way around.

I don't know what ambulance or hospital you are talking about. In March it was decided I had to go to Victoria by air ambulance (like 300 miles) for tests and procedures. No bill - no charge!

With all the procedures and treatments I've had in the past 21/2 years in British Columbia at no charge except for partial payment for prescriptions, I defy anyone anywhere to show me a better system. It's all covered for the wife and me for $130.50 a month.

What f**king healthcare system are you talking about? Do you have even the slightest inkling as to what a hospital bed costs per day?

yes they did what they had to in this situation

I agree with the nominal fee which we pay for ambulance service when we need it helps to decrease those crazies who would call an ambulance for a ride to the ER when a cab would do.

I do not believe that a conservative run ON should or would alter that policy

it's too vague it would open things up to arguement and discussion about what is an emergency and what isn't

we don't have the money and these people didn't have coverage in ON anyway

An "emergency" is something if it doesn't happen you die! Can't get much simpler than that. :)

I'd go with "likely to die or suffer permanent impairment." A broken hip won't kill you, but it'll leave you permanently disabled if it ain't treated fast and right. Same with a high fever. Contrary to scare stories, most folk with high fevers recover. But a significant percentage don't.

She doesn't have to do anything. It is far too late for any legal action. Collection agencies are scammers.

I have to wonder about the size of the bill. About the same time frame I had an injured worker helicoptered out of camp. Cost to me was $450.00 That is in BC.

Ontario specifically. And yes I do. When my wife moved here, she was denied OHIP until they farted around about the brace in her back. During that time my son was born at my cost. I am well aware the 'costs'. I am also aware of all the stuff and procedures which are not covered. And there are a lot. 90% of it fortunately is shored up with private insurance.

Simple? not simple because right off I completely disagree with your measure of who should pay.

In the middle of the night I had a kidney stone attack. I couldn't stand up let alone walk. I sure as hell couldn't drive. I went by ambulance. It wasn't life threatening but my blood pressure kept dropping so that is serious. By your definition I would need to be medically capable to access myself and then what...hope some friends could carry me in the morning?

People aren't medical experts...when people are sick and in immense pain everything is an emergency...but it isn't and that's why when you get to the ER they triage you.

When I got there they left me collapsed and sweating on a bed for four hours with no pain meds...why? because a 28 year old had thrown a brain aneurysm...she just thought she had a headache

so no, it isn't simple at all

They choppered Pete McKay in from a trout fishing trip at the cottage so that he could.........take a leak or something
important like that, and no bill for him.

He's leaving politics so he can "be close to his family", so we won't have him to kick around any more. Damn. He
was fun.

This gal.............dunno. statute of **** off etc............8O

Well aren't you a lucky duck. The rest of the nation gets a bill for that service though.

Ambulance fees a roadblock for many who need care - Health - CBC News

I stand corrected. Generally in B.C. there appears to be an $80 charge. The exception is when patients are transferred from acute care hospital to another acute care hospital (which I wasn't aware of)

Hospital to hospital trips

If you must be transferred from your present hospital to another hospital:

There is no charge for medically necessary transfers between acute care hospitals.

No need to get snarky! Perhaps your new position has gone to your head! :) :)

20 years, but who gives a shlt ?

He's going now; that's the important thing.

Wow! That really works. I got trolled with the "serving faithfully" crap, and I trolled by changing the subject.

Damn neat.

OK folks; you can have your OP back now.
