It's Comic Relief year once again in Britain, with Red Nose Day itself on 13th March.

To raise money for the charity, the BBC is televising a darts tournament in which teams consisting of a celebrity and a professional darts player - including the gold-jewellery-loving Bobby "King of Bling" George, who invented the tradition of professional darts players having nicknames and making a dramatic entrance to a match to loud music and through a fug of smoke or dry ice, making it great entertainment for TV viewers - take part. Amongst the celebrities taking part are a bunch of comedians, including Lee Mack; the 6ft 7in Pointless co-host and darts fan Richard "The Big Frimley Giant" Osman; and Rugby League legend Martin "Chariots" Offiah.

BBC sports presenter Gabby Logan hosts the contest in which big names from the world of darts join forces with celebrities in a knockout tournament held at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Essex, the home of the BDO World Championships.

Episode 1

In the opening episode, Gabby is joined on the sofa by celebrity competitors Lee Mack, Bob Mortimer, Sean Lock, Liza Tarbuck, Richard Osman, Roisin Conaty, Tim Vine and Martin Offiah, before the first quarter-final sees celebrity Lee Mack and professional Martin "Wolfie" Adams take on celebrity Martin "Chariots" Offiah and professional Anastasia "From Russia With Love" Dobromyslova (above).

For those who don't understand the rules of this great British sport, they are explained in this episode before the matches start.

The BBC may be at fault for its Left-wing slant on the world, but one thing it can't be faulted on is its nature and science documentaries, which are world-beating.

Last night I watched episode 493 of Natural World, which was all about the superpowers that owls use to hunt in the dark.

And then I watched Episode 8 of Series 51 of Horizon, the long-running BBC science documentary series which is now in its 52nd year.

Natural World

Super Powered Owls

With their charismatic faces and extraordinary head-turning ability, owls are one of our best-loved birds. And yet it's rare to catch more than a glimpse of one in the wild. These mysterious birds haunt our night, floating through the darkness with an eerie silence. But how do they see in the dark? And how do they fly so silently? Through the eyes of two special barn owl chicks and with the help of world leading scientists, Natural World reveals the magic behind owls' superpowers.

Horizon

Secrets of the Solar System

New planets are now being discovered outside our solar system on a regular basis, and these strange new worlds are forcing scientists to rewrite the history of our own solar system. Far from a simple story of stable orbits, the creation of our solar system is a tale of hellfire, chaos and planetary pinball.

It's a miracle our Earth is here at all.

I am watching the gods squeeze water out of the snow piled on my front drive. It's a bloody miracle! Mind you, they only do it when it's warm. Frankly, I don't blame them. Their hands would get too cold when it's -40C.

Nelson in His Own Words

Horatio Nelson was Britain's greatest naval hero. He was famed for his dash-and-glory heroics. He was also a prolific letter writer. The letters reveal that Nelson was a very different and more complex man than the hero that Britain created after his death. Using Nelson's letters this drama documentary exposes Nelson's skilful and manipulative use of PR to advance his career, and shows how he was careful in his praise of his rivals - in case they threatened his own prospects. And the letters reveal how his passionate love affair with Emma Hamilton changed his life forever. Highly regarded RSC actor Jonathan Slinger portrays Nelson.

BBC gameshow in which three teams battle it out to spot the link between a growing number of clues. The quicker they can spot the link, the more chance they have of walking away with thousands of pounds. A bit like Only Connect but with a cash prize.

Hosted by Mark Williams, star of The Fast Show and Father Brown and who played Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter films.

This is the inside story of the hunt for gravitational waves from the beginning of time. How the BICEP2 team came close to making one of the greatest discoveries of the century – and what happened when it all began to unravel...

Lately, been watching a few episodes of The Naked City which aired on tv from 1959-1963. It was a well acted show which made very realistic portrayals of New Yorkers and was based on a 1948 movie by the same name. The show was famous for introducing many young actors who went to great fame on tv and Broadway.

After all these years, I remain struck by the realism of the characterizations.
