Secrets of Great British Castles

Historian Dan Jones, who presented a Channel 5 series about the Plantagenets last year, is back with his new documentary on the same channel.

The historian explores the turbulent history behind six of Britainʼs most famous castles: Dover, the Tower of London, Warwick, Caernarfon, Stirling and Carrickfergus. Behind the walls of these celebrated strongholds are stories of intrigue, drama, romance, rebellion, and murder. Dan Jones recounts some of the many classic tales from 1000 years of British history, featuring a stellar cast of kings, queens, rogues, rebels, victims and villains.

Episode 1

Dover Castle

First of a six-part documentary series presented by Dan Jones exploring the history and legends of the UK's great fortresses. The first episode takes Dan behind the battlements of Dover Castle, England's largest castle, where he descends into an underground lair to discover how a vast network of tunnels has been used to defend both the castle and the country for centuries.

The castle is just 21 miles from France and is known as the Key to England. As a result, it has had immense defensive significance throughout its history. In 1216, King Louis VIII of France, who was trying to snatch the English crown from King John, was unable to take the castle. The castle also played a huge part in defending Britain during the Napoleonic Wars and World War II.

part 2 not as good as part one, I'll give it am almost ***

I personally wanted to strangle his continually weeping weak wife myself, he should have just fed her to the terrorists and escaped

the plot wasn't too bad,

his acting was good but the script was weakish

all in all, not bad

Kentucky fans riot after their loss:

After Kentucky's loss, fires, fights and arrests on State Street

Source: Lexington Herald-Leader

Thousands of Kentucky fans shared the suspense, and then the grief, of Saturday night's game after cramming into bars, yards and viewing parties at the Kentucky Theatre and other locations.

On State Street, which had been the epicenter of previous post-game celebrations, downcast expressions and stunned silence quickly gave way to chants of "(expletive) Wisconsin."

Bottles were thrown into the air and fires were set and quickly extinguished by firefighters, who asked for police escorts into the rowdy crowd.

There were several reports of assaults, and fights, and reports of people with minor injuries, such as facial lacerations, a head injury and a foot injury from broken glass.

Meantime, many Gopherland fans are jealous of Wisconsin's win reporting it more of a Kentucky loss rather than a Badger state success. Such juvenile envy!

Duke > Kentucky in the NCAA Final Four Championship

Duke has three excellent rookies who dominated the game and gave the Devils the win. This is their fifth championship and their team work was awesome.

one thing about hunger games I didn't like is that it was like watching a reality show. :(

old episodes of Mission: IMPOSSIBLE on a local nostalgia tv network

BBC news

earlier today, I attended the opening season game of our local high school softball team - get this: in the final inning with our team well ahead, the catcher was putting on her equipment and the pitcher was out on the mound with her arm & hand getting cold due to the freezing weather - I shouted at the coaches to warm up the pitcher but neither moved as they laughed at me; sure enough, the pitcher's arm and hands got cold and she gave up the winnings runs

several parents there said it was the coaches fault for not warming up the pitcher as I had instructed them

well, as I've always said (and many have confirmed over the years) - this is one old coach who knows his softball -- but who listens to the old coach anymore, right?
