Is labour unions still a good investment for the working class?

wherever i sit down my ars
When I was a teen we had summer jobs at a building materials company and had to join the teamsters as warehousemen. We were kids and didn't feel the want to go to any of the meetings though. The others kind of resented us for that as I recall. I guess we weren't team players. Later on in life I took a job at a millwork company and had to join the Carpenters union. I never saw the advantage of that simply because the wages weren't any better and you still had to pay dues and they wanted you to go to their stupid meetings. All in all I see the positive ideas of unions. I just never realized in my own experience what the advantage was. Protection from jackazzes I suppose. But as anything else, the jackazz syndrome infects that idea too.

Apparently you have no clue there are both public and private fire fighters.

And the petros dance begins.

You obviously haven't heard of paper cuts or getting coffee spilled on you!

I work in government. I've had to deal with serious injuries and deaths in the workplace. I've been in a few dangerous situations myself, not the least of which was coming under attack from rockets and mortars.

I suppose there's no point in arguing though. You just can't fix bullheaded ignorance.

It pretty well already is, when I first started working a cup of coffee was 10 cents, now it can be as high as $3.

That really makes no differences when you have 3000% more money in circulation now then you had back then. ;)

You're cup still only costs 10€ when you factor that in the equation.

What are the odds of tradesman being gravely injured by negligence Vs. someone who works at Student Loans?
people who work in the school system are subjected to violence daily

I am not in a union but I cover union jobs so, I get union pay so I pay dues.

Because of our policies set by management combined with the unions policies of defending useless workers, I would say I am divided on the particular union I belong to and it's benefits for people who are dedicated, work hard and need no union support to keep their job.

I'm all for trade unions. Public employees unions can go f-ck themselves.

Public service employees also engage in the trades. Until road maintenance privatized in 1987 we had mechanical shops in every highways district to maintain the equipment, our bridge crews were comprised of tradespeople including carpenters and traffic lights were maintained by electricians. I.C.B.C. does body work on vehicles or at least they used to. Regardless they have estimators that got the knowledge from being cognizant about body work. You can't tar everyone with the same brush, Petros!

Yep, in fact with most institutions.............hospitals, prisons, nursing homes, etc.

One other problem with Unions is it is just one more layer of bureaucracy creating more sub layers of bureaucraps creating more paper work that eventually has to be recycled, creating more bureaucracy! :)

The minimal bureaucracy created by unions is insignificant compared to government waste.

Thats what banks do. Create jobs out of imaginary value.
