montreal ahead of st. louis - 4-2
nashville ahead of colorado- 3-1
edmonton ahead of minnesota- 2-1
winnipeg ahead of dallas - 2-1

all games at the end of the second period

vancouver defeated boston - 2-1, should say eddie lack defeated boston

game was very lopsided, over 40 shots on lack, he stopped all but one.
kassian scored again, great shot, and stanton scored vancouvers 1st goal

on two occasions lack was run over by a boston player, no call on either play, then later they
gave 'him' a penalty for tripping, go figure.

thursday in buffalo

Yep, it was a great game, Talloola, pretty intense final 10 minutes- good thing my blood pressure has been at a good level.:)

l.a. defeated detroit 1-0

just heard a report that 'possibly' patrick kane will be out around 10 weeks. i saw the hit tonight

which sent him very hard and crumpling into the boards, apparantly 'he possibly' has a broken collar

bone.

that is just awful, i feel so bad for him, a wonderful player, who doesn't hit anybody, a very clean

player, and a player who 'like saigan a couple of weeks ago' is At the top of the scoring stats.

so now two very elite players have been taken out of the game by hits that are illegal and idiotic.

Calgary goalie Ramo again had a great game - this is one guy you need to watch for. He may be the best young goalie in the NHL and his game will likely get even better.

I see L.A. has now won 8 in a row. Is there a method to their madness? Probably not a bad idea keeping the "big guns" healthy until the 11th hour!

Don't care for that result too much. :)

haven't i been saying all season that l.a. will make a move, it is their way, it is what they
have done both times they won the cup, now they have made a trade for a top defenceman out of
carolina, so their team today is stronger.

anaheim looked out of sorts last night against ottawa, i would be a bit concerned if i were them.
i have never liked that style of riding on the top all year, have said it many times, it is too
hard to stay on the top, then go into playoffs and win, i like the idea of slowly peaking toward
the end of the season and go into playoffs on the rise, doesn't mean you're going to win, but
does help to carry a team upward instead of downward.

patrick cane is out approx 12 weeks, had surgery for a broken collar bone. the hit on him was 'not' a
mean move, it was more like an accident, after reviewing over again, just unfortunate. chicago
will probably bring in a ringer at the deadline to take his place, as they will flounder a bit
without him.

calgary played very well last night, but i think giordano might be injured, sure hope not, but he did
look like he was in pain after a wierd situation on the boards, we'll see what the news is today.
he is such a good player, would hate to see another one bite the dust.

Rangers & Yotes had a heck of a match tonight as the Broadway Blues won 4-3

I have to admit they were helped by a bad call in which the refs missed an accidental slash on a Yote player that should have been penalized.

only saw a bit if that game. coyotes were playing well, good game, then watched some of canucks game,
which was well worth missing, then went to a birthday dinner which was much more enjoyable.

Rangers have done well of late, but they can slack off a bit now! Certainly can't have them ahead of our Habs! :)

jlm made me think of something i did last season, and that was to find out which team 'really' is most
canadian, and the players on the team, and not the city they play out of is the point of any team, i
again counted.
last year colorado had the most canadians

OTTAWA has the most canadian players - 20
PHILLY has 18
COLORADO AND DALLAS - 17
CALGARY - 16
BUFFALO, SAN JOSE, EDMONTON AND WINNIPEG -15
VANCOUVER,MONTREAL,FLORIDA,PITTSBURGH,WASHINGTON 14
BOSTON,ISLANDERS,LOS ANGELOS - 13
TORONTO - 12

6 others with 11
3 - 10
1 - 8

DETROIT - 6

OTTAWA WINS THE 'REAL CANADIAN TEAM' COUNT, AND THEY ARE CANADIAN, EVEN BETTER.
but they won't be
in the playoffs, so the real canadian teams are not in canada, until you get to calgary with 16, and
some of those top canadian player teams won't be in the playoffs, so many of our actual canadian
players will be all done at the end of the reg. season.

just curious, as the years go by, more and more u.s. born players Are in the nhl, and many from
other countries.

i think i am missing a team, but it isn't one with lots of canadians so doesn't matter.

Right on Talloola, but there is also the aspect that Canadian based teams do more to support the Canadian economy. Teams that make the playoffs draw a lot of money into their city. I believe I heard somewhere, when Vancouver played Boston in 2011, several $million were drawn into Vancouver (and Boston).

thats true, again all about the money, i'm just interested in what is actually canadian and what is not.
irrespective of who is making all the money, players, management, cities or whatever, that is just the
business side of it.

as the years go by, our canadian players are becoming less and less a part of the NHL, and i know with all
of the teams now, compared to many years ago, that has to happen, it is still happening, and as i look into
the future, a long way into the future, the americans will dominate the nhl, as their programs are improving
over the years, getting stronger and better all the time, and with the populAtion compared to canada,
the outcome of the nhl is obvious, i'm just glad i was here to see the strength of canadian nhl hockey
all thru the years to this point, and the contribution they have given as 'their' game grew.
and we musn't forget the international players in the nhl, also more than ever, with exception to the
russian players, but from what i hear the KHL isn't doing so well, so a lot depends of their success,
as to whether the russians come back in numbers into the nhl, or diminish.

california is doing an amazing job building hockey right from grass roots, thanks to wayne gretzky,
and it is good to see, and with the four AHL teams who are moving into california next season, 'that'
will continue building the states strength in hockey. they have good minor programs as well.

and anyone who says the league is watered down, just doesn't know anything about todays game, as the
quality, speed and technique of the game is better than it has ever been, and will continue to improve,
with the coaching, equipment and just information that has been gathered over the years, and the
desire and determination of young people to be better and owners and management to compete at the
highest level, the game will continue to improve.

our canadian kids who work their way into the NHL mean a lot to me, and when we trash and criticize a lot
of american teams for our own reasons, we are also trashing our own players, on those teams, players who
as canadian juniors we cheered on as 'canadians', and forgot about, when they entered the NHL., unless
they became a household name that we connected with because of their success, eg. wayne gretzky, and
when he went to the u.s. to play he was highly criticized.

i respect all of the players, irrespective of their roots, because i know how hArd they struggled And
worked, and their parents as well, to get where they are now, then they get trashed for making good
money, called selfish and spoiled, just shows how 'we' as spectators lose perspective with reality.
maybe i could add, when we are watching teams play from the u.s., take a second
and check the rosters of those teams on the nhl.com site, and make a note of
your canadian players 'on' said teams.

I think it's important that Canadian based teams win a fair share of the games otherwise, they could be taken over by the Yanks, case in point Winnipeg about 12 years ago when Phoenix took them over.

no, not to do with winning and losing, as many teams in the nhl lose much more thAn they win, And never
fold. its all about corporate money, just as it is with other cities. toronto is a good example, a
dismal record, and the place fills up every game.

there are 30 teams in the nhl, if the bottom dwellers folded after A few years of poor placing, that would
be a constant happening in the nhl, doesn't happen.

looks like quebec will be getting another team down the line somewhere, they are building a new rink
as we speak.

teams will ebb and flow, that is normal, some will dominate for a while, then others will, just the
nature of the game, and the draft will pick up the bottom dwellers and help them to regain some
status, eg. chicago, islanders, and oilers are coming along slowly, and buffAlo will Also start
to climb as well.

oilers fans have stuck with them thru thick And thin, now they are starting to see an improvement, and when
they do finally begin to climb, they will stay up for a while, lots of good young players.

winnipeg folded because corporate money ran out, they couldn't get anyone on board, but that city
suffered thru the years of no team, now they don't want that to happen again.

Good points, Toronto does have the added advantage of being within driving distance for close to 4 million people!

Good points, Toronto does have the added advantage of being within driving distance for close to 4 million people!

as do many u.s. cities, and a 2nd team will show up in the southern ontario area in the next few years,
but they do have to put a couple of teams in the western conference, as the east have two more teams
than the west.

out of the 4 million people many just love hockey, and will support their team come hell or high water,
or, they are just 'blank'. lol

As long as owners and gms are making a sincere And smart attempt to rebuild teams that have fallen
a bit, fans in canada will support them, the fans are knowledgeable, that is apparent in vancouver
from last year to this year, IF there had been 'no' attempt to make good changes, that would have
been a poor corporate non move, and corporations and fans would not take a second look, but it is
obvious that the canuck owners are very interested in pulling their team back up, and not allowing
them to continue the poor play of last year. the hiring of linden, benning and desjArdin said As
much, loud and clear.
