Rangers got a good two way player in (D) Keith Yandle - but I'm afraid they gave up too much for him as they have now given up # 1 draft choices for 2013, 2014, 2015, and either 2016 or 2017. They also gave up a couple of # 2 draft choices but I'm not sure for which years. They picked up a center named James Shepherd but I confess to not knowing him or how much he can contribute to their game for the balance of the season and playoffs. Hated to see Anthony Duclair go.

In tonight's game they beat Nashville 4-1 with a good defensive effort. Mind you their D was not very physical but it play smart. And that's the type of player Yandle is.

Mats Zuccarello signs for another 4 years - that will bring them some measure of stability.

yep, those high drafts do disappear when teams are trading for players who they think cAn help them
to that 'stanley cup', thats the price they have to pay, its a gamble, but they do it.

wow, i was surprised to see san jose handily defeat montreal in san jose tonight, thats a big win

for the sharks, when they roll into vancouver tomorrow night, canucks need to help them lose a

bit confidence, hope they play a full 60 minutes, and not just 40 like they did last night.

Yep, I had to take a second and third look at the score, but it just proves what you said before. Canucks should be OK tomorrow night, second game at home after a road trip. Actually they played well for about 55 minutes last night including the O.T. They were weak for 5 minutes in the first period and about 5 minutes in the third period. They'll be on a roll now. :)

maybe a couple of the injured players will be returning tonight. tanev, corrado, no confirmation yet as to
who might be returning tonight.

also i heard a rumour only, that markstrom might be in goal.

It will be interesting to see if and how that pans out. Lack has been pretty solid with only the odd lapse. On the other hand if Ryan is going to be gone for awhile, it's a pretty big order for Lack to do it all.

Leopold's daughter wrote Wild to "please, please, please" take her dad
By Mike Zeisberger, Toronto Sun First posted: Monday, March 02, 2015 04:28 PM EST | Updated: Monday, March 02, 2015 08:50 PM EST
Jordyn Leopold got her wish.
In January, young Jordyn, the 11-year-old daughter of then-Columbus defenceman Jordan Leopold, wrote a letter to the Minnesota Wild front office asking to trade for her dad, a University of Minnesota alumnus who hails from Golden Valley, Minn.
“My dad is very lonely without his family,” Jordyn wrote. “We are living in Minnesota right now and I am lost without my dad and so is my mom, my 2 sisters and my brother. My dad is on a team with young guys and is very lonely and is not playing because the Jackets got him because they needed a D-man. It has been since November and we can not take it anymore.
“Please, please, please ask the Jackets if you guys can get him.”
Ask and ye shall receive. On Monday, the Wild traded defenceman Justin Falk and a fifth-round pick for Jordyn Leopold’s dad.
Asked about the trade, Wild GM Chuck Fletcher joked that after reading Jordyn’s letter, “the pressure was immense.”

i heard this letter being read on tsn yesterday, it was so touching and sweet, and the response to this
letter was wonderful, a very human part of pro sports.

a happily ever after situation, and reminds us that there are many many families throughout pro sports who
are deeply affected by the happenings, by trades of players, and their lives are changed each time.

just want to add, james duthie had tears in his eyes trying to get through
'the reading' of this letter.

It will be interesting to see if and how that pans out. Lack has been pretty solid with only the odd lapse. On the other hand if Ryan is going to be gone for awhile, it's a pretty big order for Lack to do it all.

yes, they have to give him a shot at it, he is the backup now, and could be called upon to play at any
time if lack is either pulled or injured, so he might as well jump into the fire now and get started.
i wasn't in favour of bringing up right now, would rather have seen them acquire an experienced back up,
but they didn't so here we go, might be great, who knows, its just that the team has now arrived at
the time of this season where they are either going to keep their position in the standings or not,
many games will now be within the conference and division, so the points are crucial. those teams
sitting 'just' out of a playoff spot right now are going to play for their lives till the end of
the season, 20 games left, lets see how it goes, will be fun to watch, and fun for them to play
at this level for the rest of the season, gets those teams into the groove of playing playoff hockey,
and those who do make it 'in', will be ready to continue.

Like Benning says you want guys who want to be where they are and fight hard to stay. Leopold could be one of those guys who will bring it every night.

thats right i agree, and he is an older player, and not the super star of the team, but a valued player,
and everyone involved will be better for this move.

Stan Fischler (who like Old Man River just keeps rolling along at age 82+) said on MSG tv that there was much controversy in NY over that move. Many critics said the Rangers have sacrificed too much of their future and need to alter their strategy.

I know what a terrible mistake that tactic can be from the Vikings experience when they gave up so much in the Herschel Walker deal. To this day the team is still trying to recover.

Tonight the Jersey Devils won 3-1 over Nashville. Late in the game Mike Cammallieri broke away and was tripped up by Seth Jones and the ref awarded an automatic goal. Good move on his part. Devils finally reach .500. Perhaps with a late season surge they just might make it to the playoffs.

That letter got a huge amount of headlines here in Gopherland - the news media and sports fans were all over it.

when a team is in a position to possibly make a run in the playoffs, and other teams are in the same
position, they all do the same thing, reach out to bring in one or two players who can help them
over the top, and if they don't do that, they will be criticized for 'not' doing it, NOW, the players they try to bring in are considered valuable, so they are not cheap, either get no one or get someone
who actually can contribute, and they don't come cheap. seems they can't win either way with fans, get
no one and get trashed, pay for a very good player and get trashed, there is no middle ground, teams
are not going to give those players away.

calg over philly - 3-2 OT
ottawa over minn 3-2 - SO
annaheim over ariz 4-1
la. over edmonton - 5-2

s jose over vancouver - 6-2

when any team 'spots' the other team 3 goals, that is a gift, and a team like s. jose who needs those
points isn't likely to let them back in, no not likely at all.

markstrom was paralized in the goal, didn't move on anything, looked like a deer in the headlights.

maybe benning should be thinking about that move, not his finest hour.

san jose, l.a. and calgary are now tied with 72 points, sitting at 8th,9th and 10th spots, san jose having
played more games,

minnesota and vancouver tied at 75 pts

winnipeg 76

so, again the list is closing up and becoming anyone's possibilities of getting in the playoffs.

everyone is dropping calgary out of the race because of giordano's injury, but i see that they
managed a win on the road last night, and that team is not being successfull because of one player,
they have a nice mix of talent and determination.

winnipeg has strengthened their team since the trade deadline.

we all know what l.a. is capable of doing and san jose is now very energized with those 4 pts in
2 days, and they also beefed up at the deadline, so anything is possible for them now, their goalkeeping
just has to stay strong, their weakest point of the team.

san jose, calgary and l.a. are all right there, and over the next few weeks it will be interesting
to see where the pacific div ends up, when the dust settles.

fun times ahead

Markstrom has a .250 save percentage. That will have to improve somewhat.

lol, yeah, somewhat

i think he will be a very good goalie, the only rub i had was introducing him to the nhl at this particular
time of the canucks season, because in my opinion the stanley cup run this season for the canucks 'is'
making the playoffs, and whatever happens after that really doesn't matter, would be nice to see them
make the playoffs ans win 'one' round.

i think he should be starting at training camp in the fall, and slowly introduce him to the nhl from that
point, and don't chance 'him' losing his confidence right off the bat, but maybe i'm too picky, whatever.

he'll be back in again, maybe he'll do better next time.

both teams played very good defense but the Wings were just a bit sharper - in fact, it looked like a playoff game as both sides were very intense

yes, we thought the same, games have ramped up now, trade deadline over, teams have their pick ups,
and playoffs are on the horizon, the atmosphere has changed, games are more exciting and tense.

the only difference was that penalty on the rangers at the end, otherwise teams were very even,
very good defense on both teams and goaltending was superb.
