It's a seed bank for the start of the new earth. If man was destined to enter that place after knowing about good and evil then eating from the tree was always fully intended. The existence of the tree of life and it's healing fruit was meant to be the next event after eating, Adam and Eve jumped the gun.

As the body is an extension of nature into the human system, this special form of pietism had to attack it there where its power over the spirit was most gripping. The devilish power of

nature could not be tolerated in such close and dangerous access to the spirit. Great Pan was the deadly enemy. Nature had to be throttled at its source, rooted by original sin in the deepest nooks of man’s constitution.
All this chaos in the religious area was attended, accentuated, if not largely inspired by, one of the most staggering phenomena in the history of the race. This was--and is--the presence, power, and influence of a--Book. This momentous tome appears to be a collection of ancient documents, of predominantly hagiographic nature, about which the tradition of their personal authorship by God himself, ostensibly using "holy men of old" as amanuenses for purposes of dictation, has tenaciously clung. It gained the name and renown of being the sole transmission of God’s wisdom in literary form to his children on earth. To all intents and purposes, it was regarded as God’s manual of instruction, knowledge, wisdom and truth. Under the power of such a persuasion, which spread to virtual universality in the West, this extraordinary volume gained a veritable homage and reverence that would not be erroneously described as the worship of a fetish.

Original sin of the soul was union and worship of the flesh (mater). The soul is considered defiled while in union with the material body.

Did you read any of the books by Sylvia Browne? A lot of detail about numerous incarnations, but I think she broke through the "bullsh*t barrier".
How true. There are always rotten apples to spoil any barrel. I place her right up there with the average Christian evangelist. Do as I say not as I do and send the cheque.

Cliffy IS an intolerant bigot.

I don't read your posts so much.

"told them where she put the family treasures before she died".... lmao.

Yup.......I can imagine you doing the exact same thing, when you first heard about the moon landing. In your opinion is it God who is sending all those signals down from space to your TV, phone or pc as well??

You have my blessings, as far as not reading my posts. LOL.

Doing what exactly?

I don't remember the first moon landing.

No, I do not believe that at all.

What other dumb questions do you have for me?

I have to add that while in the flesh or the sea (water) the soul is charged with attaining redemption, a higher state, and that until this is accomplished we remain in a state of sin as in (ain't it a sin we ain't in heaven), (ain't it a sin I don't have wings yet) (aint it a sin I still have to use doors) etc.

Geez, & here I hoped you would continue to not bother with my posts.....Oh well c'est la vie.

So, you have managed not become aware of one of the major events in your country's history or is that not what you implied? You might look up the footage on the internet or perhaps not, there are enough people around who think it was all fake anyway. I give you carte blanche to skip over all my posts, in fact I can return the favour and skip over yours as well LOL.

So what was I doing or supposed to be doing when I became old enough to be aware of the first moon landing?

Story of my life there friend, slept through all the important stuff. Lol.

:D
P.S. I don't feel like going back over 130 posts, what's the moon landing got to do with original sin anyway?

When I was about 4 or 5 years old I remember finishing off my older brother's coloring book about the first moon landing. Maybe that is when I became aware?

"Hey mom? What is this sh*t all about?"

P.S. I don't feel like going back over 130 posts, what's the moon landing got to do with original sin anyway?

I'm trying to figure that out. Do you think she has a point?

Lol. I don't remember exactly when either, I presume at some point in childhood someone told me it happened.

I don't know, this isn't the kind of thread I normally bother with, but it kept popping up at the top of the forum feed, lol, so I opened it.

Yup.....Have to get people accustomed to the idea that if this Universe is the handiwork of an actual entity, that entity cannot possibly be as horrid as portrayed by the authors of our sacred books. OR perhaps, that entity just grew up and left it's toys just hanging about. (us)
.
The book is so vivid that most readers don't stick it out to where the good things start to happen. If they fold reading about it I would hold little hope that they would fare better when it is literally happening right before them.

The book? Now why do I think you mean the "Bible" I was about 10 when I found a beautifully illustrated one in the school library. LOL I asked my father all sorts of questions about incest, women of the temple and why a priest would spill womb blood on the temple floor. He wanted to know exactly what I had been reading....he was stunned when I told him what.

The explanation was short and sharp.....not at all like I got when I asked about space in the old paper Amazing SiFi books. That explanation ran a full 1/2 hour. Pretty long for a 10 year old.

Can someone explain me the notion of Original Sin? I simply don't understand it.

This question is primarily focused on the Christian notion of original sin. But any type of opinion and contribution is welcome, be it from a atheist, Christian or any other point of view.

Please stick to the subject though...

I accessed a Bible search portal and typed in "original sin", and this is what I found, sl:

"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me." (Psalm 51:5 NIV)

This is the qualifier at the beginning of this psalm:

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

Original sin is how Gawd gets to torture babies who never did no harm forever.

not gawd...people. It's the excuse people use to torture and abuse babies. Gawd doesn't do anything but maybe appear in a piece of fruit or toast here and there...

Since the myths surrounding David has his having 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines, David's affair with Bathsheba certainly put him over the top (i.e., the deadly sin of greed).
