Bush wasn't considered the omniscient Messiah by his supporters. Rather, he was portrayed as stupid. Thus, it wasn't surprising Bush had to use a teleprompter. In contrast, Obama is held to a higher standard because of his ostensible extraordinary intelligence and speaking ability.

The truth of the matter is that while Obama can deliver a great speech off of a teleprompter, he is nothing special when he must speak without a teleprompter.

In the past presidents were able to establish a relationship of some sort with the opposition party. Obama is the first who refuses to compromise on anything of substance. Thus, we have gridlock. But Obama refuses to be stymied by the constitutional system of checks and balances. Thus, he operates exclusively through the beauracracy by executive memoranda and executive orders.

Not much was made of it because he wasn't totally stumped without it.

Two big things though out of the speech: his response to the hecklers was spot on.

He mentioned not only gays and lesbians but bisexuals and transgendered people when speaking of condeming people due to who or what they are.

For that alone I say good on him.

Now if he just upholds the rest of the speech...
