I have concerns about the direction the forum is headed, substantiated by a couple of P.M.s I've received. First of all I take responsibility for whatever I've done to contribute to this "direction". I feel a few of us have lost sight of the purpose of a forum. I think "bashing" ideas is good, "bashing" posters is not so good. I know I lost my cool at the accusations made toward an entire demographic in the "Seniors" thread and from there it seemed to morph into denigrating a member regardless of the stupidity of statements he made. Now it's reached the point where it's just pages and pages of repetition. I fully believe a person should be able to make a stupid statement (occasionally) without having "his feet held to the fire" to back it up. Maybe it's better to acknowledge the statement was dumb/stupid and let it go at that. Sometimes a dumb statement is just a starting point where with some fine tuning it can morph into a good idea. I've made my feeling about "red negs" several times (I don't get upset over them as much as I do at the futility of them) Perhaps they should be reserved for instances of cruelty and grossness, rather than disagreeing with a statement. I don't think a lot of what we've seen lately contributes to a "happy ambience" and we have to remember the forum is for everybody not just for five or six. I've seen a few intelligent posters "disappear" and I think that's a shame. I'm hoping to see a change of direction. JLM.

Forums will slowly die over time regardless of our behavior on them.
Enjoy it while they still exist.

Do you mean ALL forums. We'll progress past the need of any and all. Or do you mean the life of A forum. Like an individual forum has eventual end death?

You sure as sh-t did Putz.

Then you should have no trouble quoting me. I had no trouble quoting your erroneous claims. Your childish insults prove that you can't refute anything I have said. Why is it so difficult to admit you were wrong. Is your ego that big?

bluebird,

How funny Farm subsidies. Call them what they are consumer subsidies.

Most consumers couldn't afford to eat if the government didn't make up the difference between the cost of production and keeping the majority of farmers in business.

One million adults to lose Food Stamps this year

One million adults to lose Food Stamps this year

Here are the first 1 million casualties of the GOP take-over.

Roughly 1 million of the nation’s poorest people will be cut off SNAP (formerly known as the Food Stamp Program) over the course of 2016, due to the return in many areas of a three-month limit on SNAP benefits for unemployed adults aged 18-50 who aren’t disabled or raising minor children. These individuals will lose their food assistance benefits after three months regardless of how hard they are looking for work.
That sounds pretty bad, but the real knee-to-the-groin is a couple paragraphs below.
The loss of this food assistance, which averages approximately $150 to $200 per person per month for this group, will likely cause serious hardship among many. Agriculture Department (USDA) data show that the individuals subject to the three-month limit have average monthly income of approximately 19 percent of the poverty line, and they typically qualify for no other income support.

This will be the first step in the next Republican caused recession.

GOOD!

About time. The program is rife with fraud. Welfare Cheats are getting caught with 2, 3, 4, 5 SNAP cards at a time.
