He refused all privilege, would take no compensation for his efforts above his military pay, and volunteered to work alongside labourers whenever he had free time.

well everyone is told they need a degree, meanwhile there is a shortage of machinists and heavy machinery operators here in ontario that the government is actually paying for training in those areas.
