While I fully agree with your sentiment, Boomer, I have to say I adamantly disagree with it ever happening. Canada's natural resources are still largely intact while those of the U.S. are largely depleted. Each country has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages but to align the two to be workable for all would be next to impossible and very costly. I do however fully agree with the U.S. procedure for dealing with vicious criminals.:)

Give my regards to the denizens of the Cornhusker State.:)

OK, you can have Nebraska.

We'll only consent to a merger if you deport Celine Dion and Justin Bieber.

No, wait. They both spend most of their time here anyway. Damn.

Is there any place you could put that Justin Bieber where he wouldn't be a detriment? :)

The Canadian system is a publicly funded insurance program where costs are controlled and both hospitals and doctors are private. Any Canadian can go to any doctor or hospital in the country. Each province has its own system and its own unique way of funding it. In spite of this decentralized approach, there are agreements among all provinces that provide for treatment of any Canadian citizen regardless of where the need occurs. The great success of their system causes almost all Canadian politicians, even conservatives, to defend it vociferously. It is called single payer because there is only one "payer"; there is no alternative program, such as private health insurance, to which Canadians can turn for basic health care. Since the wealthy as well as the middle income people have no alternative, they make sure it is funded adequately. This together with cost controls insures that everyone including the poor, who use the same system, receives the same high quality care ... 99% of the Canadians I've talked to like their system. They say it is such a peace of mind and the service at the doctor's office and hospitals is really quite good. If the ordinary run of the people like it, that's all we need to know."
According the Harris Poll of all industrial nations, Canadians are the most satisfied with their health care.

Single Payer Health Care System

The article is a bit dated but its facts remain unchanged. Any bet Canadians will never be willing to give up their socialized health care ?

A bit loose with the facts but not too far off.

Granted. The US could also start negotiating fairly on forest products. We could change Independence Day from July 4th to July 1st. We'll make Queen Elizabeth our Head of State.

Dumping queenie is about the only thing in favor of joining up.
Quebec has such a high number in favor because they don't intend to come to the party. They will form their own country, subsidized by NA and use NA money and defence.

Everyone assumes because we are good neighbors it would be a natural fit.

Quite true. I once tried being room mates with my best friends. Figured it'd be great seeing as we get along so well. It was a living Hell. After we went our separate ways living wise things went back to normal in our friendship.

Canadians actually think Americans are interested in a United North America, it's cute, but about as real as the Turks & Caicos wanting to join Canada, it's all in your northern heads concocted by nationalist imbeciles that believe their country is the best gift to the planet.

The T&C desperately wants to be part of Canada... I asked a guy in the bar once and it sounded like he agreed (he was slurring pretty bad at the time).

PS - Rye whiskey is Canada's gift to the world

C'mon now, admit it. You were just a tiny bit more interested in Canadians when you found out I was one of them, right? ;)

I don't disagree when it comes to the economics, but there are more important things than economics. Identity, history, culture. Money isn't everything.

money, god and guns....for some people

other Americans and Canadians have different values

the older I get the more I understand through experience what I already intuitively knew in my youth...who you allow yourself to become, how you present yourself to the world and how you treat others they count, it stays with you and filters every piece of your world with every breath that you take...all the rest is just as gauze and will blow away

Will come back to me in my sweet time..."

Precisely. Your allure is enhanced by the fact that you're a mysterious, exotic foreign woman. If Ontario was a state, you'd just be a chick from Ontario.
