Let's keep things in perspective, any number of premature deaths is very sad but this doesn't hold a candle to Dec. 6 1989.

Agreed. Sad as this is, it really doesnt belong in the same league as a lot of the things the media has been comparing it to. I can see comparing it to the October Crisis though there are still major differences. I've seen some media outlets seriously comparing this to 9/11. There is no comparison. Such hyperbole is just fear mongering.

5.02% of the UK population are Muslim, and look at the mess they are in.. Muslim slums the police are afraid to enter.

Surely, you are mistaken as Blackleaf has informed us their law enforcement is the best in the world! :p

Let's not forget about the 4 R.C.M.P. killed at Mayerthorpe about 9 years ago. If our innocence was lost it was long before today.

Lax security on Parliament - Those that made the decisions not to improve security should be sent to EI.
In 2007-08 we had been in Astan for years.

CBC just announced that yesterday improved security measure we in place. Staffer would have to use their access cards for the building housing the PM's offices- Wow - But the question is after yesterdays attack, why was security not stepped up then.

This is a story from a former public servant, in 07 or 08

Benjamin Shinewald: Ottawa never took security seriously. Until now | National Post

When I worked in Ottawa just six years ago, I attended Cabinet committee meetings about once a week. Each time I went, I was stunned at how lax security was.

On one occasion, I walked all the way into the Cabinet Room — filled with 20 or so Ministers — without a single security check of any kind. I could have had a gun, or worse, but no one even checked my ID.

So there was nobody guarding parliament? The access to parliament of the shooter is a question which will need to be answered at some point.

It was a sign of our freedom to be able to come and go there as we pleased.

It would seem that others want to take away from us what hundreds of thousands of men and women have attempted to build. A free country.

yes it was guarded, the shooter burst through the staff door, shot the one guard in the leg and the other just dove out of the way as he was shooting

Agreed. Quite a few times walking the grounds of parliament or around the war memorial Ive thought about security. I figured a shooter could easily get onto the grounds and harm quite a few people before being stopped. I did not think one could get into the building though. Its a good 100+ metres from the street to centre block. I figured someone would probably be able to take down a shooter somewhere along that path. At the top of the stairs there are usually two cruisers there, but not always. He didnt get far once inside but he should not have been able to get in at all. Im not blaming those who were on duty at the time, they did their jobs well with what little they had. Those above them who decided to leave parliament so lightly guarded really should face some consequences.

They arent quite that lax anymore. Metal detectors, pat downs, hell Ive had to take my belt off every time Ive gone there. They're pretty thorough with checking. But thats just the side entrance tourists use. Once in I was surprised by the freedom a person had to move around within the building. There were a fair number of guards but none of them have ever asked if I was lost or told me I was not supposed to be somewhere. I dont know about other entrances though. I havent read to see which entrance this shooter used. I assume it was the main one directly below the peace tower. Ive found they usually have 2 guards there just to make sure tourists or others dont come in (as only the politicians or royalty can use that door).

My own personal preference is to declare war on ISIS.
I mean literally, with an act of parliament, not figuratively.
That makes Canadian citizens that work for the advancement of ISIS guilty of treason, no matter where they were born.

Is treason still punishable by the death penalty in Canada Colpy? If it is, then maybe we should talk about actually using it for scum like this.

He should not have got as far as he did. Security was lax. It was down the the Sergeant at Arms that stopped this attack. How many would be dead if this fanatic was well armed?
Our Parliament is a symbol that any terrorist would love to have a successful attack on.
The people that denied funding, denied increased security well fire them.
Or as we said when I was in the Army.
Put them in charge of a photocopier.

There are people in charge of security for Parliament, IRBS. The solider who was murdered was not one of them and that was my point - he was simply doing his tour of duty at the tomb of the unknown soldier.

You know the guy is already dead right.

Agreed. Or if he had had a couple friends with him at the time. Lax security plus surprise would have gotten them far apparently.

Soldiers in the streets, mass arrests. Trudeau stated- Just watch me

Listen as Trudeau hangs this idiot reporter.

Pierre Trudeau: just watch me - Digital Archives - CBC Player

Yeah, I am very well versed on the topic, you lost any balls you had that day accepting martial law over two kidnappings.

As sad as deaths are, today wasn't about a soldier getting killed, or women getting killed in 1989, it was an attack on "things like today doesn't happen to Canada, everybody on the planet loves us."
