Responding to the title of the thread: '76 was the low point for me. The shame of the Olympics (unfinished facilities and pathetic athletic performance). Early 80s were a disaster economically and finally in '84 a ray of hope - successful Expo '86, free trade agreement, economy picking up. 90s were a mixed bag, (Chretien pathetic, Martin OK) but my pride in the country really picked up in '06 and has steadily increased since then - fairly good economy, foreign policy with moral courage and level-headed leaders not promising Utopia. Always had pride in my family and friends.

Sorry, when O.P. was explained to me it meant original post. Has it changed?

doesn't really matter, dumba$$..... the point is, as far as you're concerned, it's all Harpers fault.

No YOU grab a f**king brain, there, Einstein. Harper is the head honcho of the country and any big events have to pass over his desk, so he is ultimately responsible.

You have gotta be kidding... The PM's responsibility?

... Maybe he's too busy because little Timmy fell off his bike in Brandon, Mb and the file crossed Harper's desk... He's probably out there right now personally securing some polysporin for the wee lad... All in the National Interest, you understand

Better late than never. The process is there, she should have used it properly.

WOW!! Really, she married a guy that is abusive and beat her, and was charged for assault.

I bet he was threatening her for sexual favors and everything, to get her papers.

What are you going to do in a strange country, you have children, and threatened to be tossed out and lose your kids. The guy sound like a real creep, to bad they can't deport the guy and keep the woman.

She should be allowed to stay on that alone. The Justice system failed her and Canada failed her.

Not the same thing- she's already been here 9 years!

Makes no difference. She's dodged the system for 9 years or part of 9 years... time to go back and do it the right way.

Hold the line.

I beg to differ. She was in a desperate situation and desperately did whatever worked to alleviate it.

As did every illegal immigrant in the US. They all say the same sh*t.

Quite possibly- the original terms should be strictly documented, signed and adhered to. Was she told she would have to leave after 9 years?

If this was all there was, somebody would have stopped the deportation and issued a different permit. What we have here is some of the facts presented in the best possible light.

Taken from article:

"However, Potvin said the sponsor was found guilty of physical assault during the course of Sheila's sponsorship application, which in turn made him ineligible to sponsor her. She said the conviction cancelled her permanent residency bid."

You think you should actually have to tell them that? That was just silly.
