Harper rebuffs renewed calls for murdered, missing women inquiry - Manitoba - CBC News

Until the trend diminishes I think we have to think of new procedures and further use of modern technology to make things safer for the women and to discourage or identify the perpetrators. If you're disabled and frail and have a bad fall you can push a button to summon help immediately. Sure this sort of technology can be available to women at risk..............probably most women. That would just be one procedure.

I wish you to be right. The nature of the crime is a mark of the beast. All women are at risk of the beast.

Not sure just what an enquiry would achieve beyond giving a lot of money to bureaucraps and lawyers for little if any positive results. What is needed is boots on the ground detective work.

Be sure to spend lots of money on things that don't increase their quality of life so they don't lose hope so early on in life. But then breaking them has always been the goal, it's never worked in the past so why think some paint and a new name will change everything.

Yep, it would have to be stipulated that no money changes hands before there are results. One way to start would be brain storming among the populace with someone taking notes. Perhaps form a committee of vulnerable members.

15 minutes and you think I'm ducking, I don't duck. There is no effort by the Government to improve the quality of life for the ones 'we' have determined belong on a Reservation. If some of them try and intrigrate themselves into the community outside the Rez the first 'reward' is to loose all benefits they have a a Treaty Indian, damned if you don't and triple damned if you try to alter that. Choke on that.

First of all there is a large percentage of abused women who AREN'T Indians. Second I don't really expect the Gov't to improve the quality of anything.............they haven't so far so why would they start now? I don't believe it's going to take miracles to bring about improvement so much as some organization and awareness by potential victims. A start would be never being alone with people you don't know.

What would be the objective of an inquiry?

It would probably depend on what the inquiry is focused on. I suppose a good place to start might be current procedures and determine what's working and what's not so an adjusted plan of action can be determined. I think even Harper realizes the current statistics are far too high. I think more education could be part of a plan.
