How did anybody actually believe Obama?

No bites on the J Edgar Hoover angle. Gopher had to fall back on the tried and true Iraq method. So much for a topic about Obama...

Looks like we'd have to agree on whether the military can execute people. That argument is too ridiculous for my patience.
It can't (except its own people pursuant to court-martial or captured enemies pursuant to tribunal). This wasn't an execution. It was a killing in war. The legal regime of warfare is completely different from the legal regime of crime. This is war. Congress declared war.

Lest you think the AUMF against al Qaeda, being a joint resolution, was not a declaration of war, I would point out that the Constitution specifies no particular form for Congress to declare war. Nor does it require that a declaration of war say "Declaration of War" in the heading in big Gothic letters. I would further note that the declaration of war in World War II was precisely the same as the AUMF against al Qaeda, i.e., a joint resolution of Congress.

BS. Post a link please.

Google is your best pal.

Afghanistan is where al Qaeda was. Al Qaeda was also substantially intertwined with the Taliban government of Afghanistan. You may note that a number of countries, including Canada, that chose to stay out of D*ck and George's Excellent Adventure in Iraq did participate in the war on Afghanistan. Seems like they thought the casus belli against Afghanistan was legit.

Or perhaps Germany and Canada are just dupes and hangers-on of the U.S. Which kinda makes a body wonder why they didn't go into Iraq.

Defo dupes and butt wipers as Afghanistan did not attack either country. And benefit did either get from kissing up to Bush?

I simply didn't trust the guy from the first moment I saw him, and that was in person. Some of the replies in this thread are from what seems to be fanatics/extremists who are not programmed to question.

Tyranny is when rulers can do things that the rest of us can't and I don't believe I need to show any proof about that, especially to fanatics on an Internet forum. Tyranny is the NSA's mass surveillance programs, Guantanamo Bay, drone strikes, torture, illegal wars, crushing of peaceful protests, meddling in the affairs of foreign countries (how on earth is Joe Biden's son a new member of the board of Ukraine's gas company Gazprom?!), using government agencies to target political foes.. Fast & Furious anybody?

My question still remains: How were so many people duped by the promises of "change" and "hope" by somebody TWICE?

Perhaps I'm asking the wrong questions. I haven't watched CBC, NBC, CNN, BBC, CTV, HN or any mainstream news "source" for years now.

Andem, I think the Repubs purposely lost the elections by presenting candidates they knew would fail. After 8 years of Dubbya and Doctor (D!ck) Strangelove and their gang of thugs, they knew they would lose. Obama got in, like most Canadian parties, as a protest vote against the Repubs. 4 years was not enough for Americans to forget the lies of the Dubbya admin. There was no other choice in 2012, just like there was no other choice but Harpo and his gang of thugs in our last election.

Good morning Wally. Are you constipated this morning? You seem out of sorts.

Everyone will need the kool aid and tin foil hats when Republican candidates say they will:

Cancel NSA spying
Close Guantanimo
Stop torture
Stop illegal wars
Stop meddling in foreign affairs

Those guys are the reining champions of everything on the list.

Like I said, I don't have the patience for this argument. I find it hard to believe that even you think this makes any sense, but here we are.
