If doc won't prescribe something for personal reasons other than for health reasons.. ie birth control pills for a female smoker over 40 (the only one I can think of) then I will find one who keeps his/her beliefs to him/herself. Sure, offer your opinion but don't preach.

Not preaching, no. But acting on her beliefs (morals...whatever). She has that right I suppose as I have a right to find a doctor who will give me a sound scientific reason for their diagnoses.

Well, that's right, when you go to a professional, you expect to see someone ready to serve you.

Don't you see the distinction between refusing to give a patient a treatment because it's medically counter-indicated for the PATIENT, and refusing to give a patient a treatment because of the DOCTOR'S religious beliefs?

i see both reasons as reasonable. anyone can refuse to do whatever they think is appropriate because of
their religious beliefs, and of course the first reason is obvious,
just because i have chosen non-belief in any religion doesn't mean i think others should do the same,
and i respect those who choose whatever they want for themselves, and that includes the doctor, if
that is the reason she refuses to issue birth control pills, but i actually don't know why she made
that decision.

That'd be great, except for the fact that the doctor is licensed by, and access to birth control pills is limited by, the state. So when the doctor uses her state-provided authority to impose her religion on another person, what is that?

Also, it's well and good to say "go to another doctor." How bout when the next doctor's 100 miles away?

How bout emergency medical technicians refusing to treat homosexuals at crash scenes because they believe homosexuality is sinful? Legitimate?

How bout Muslim police officers refusing to file reports on rapes of women who wore revealing clothing?
