Actually in this day and age I don't think $16,000 annually for a woman and child is much above the poverty line. I think rent alone (in Calgary or Edmonton) could easily eat up $8-$9,000.

From 1986 till 2010 the dollars adjusted dropped. How is that better?

I knew/know( she is no longer on welfare) a mother with one child on welfare. I knew exactly what her cheques were and what other benefits she received. I also know how much she whined when she no longer qualified for all the subsidies and benefits.

And that means what? She was a whiner?

Why not just sterilize all the "innocent females" ? It won't do a damn thing for STDs (probably up them) but will prevent all those too stupid to use a rubber from ruining their lives from bringing a human burden into this oh so scary world where everybody is dropping dead from poverty.

my morals are all connected to abstinence? Really?

"and I already know what your answer and others would be if I was to bring up the only fool proof prevention there is for pregnancy."

What are you referring to there?

No, she felt she was better off when she was on welfare than when she was working and having to pay for everything herself. Single Mothers are not that bad off, despite what the bleeding hearts like to spout.

I had problems being able to afford to take 2 weeks off and go on a holiday. She had no problem buggering off somewhere every summer and staying in hotels. Did she ever get a rude awakening the first summer when she no longer WAS on welfare. Suddenly she couldn't afford to bugger off for 2 weeks and stay in hotels.

Abstinence is a viable solution to pregnancy prevention. It has nothing to do with "morals". I could care less who or how many someone "fu cks". Have at er. Just take responsibility for the consequences of your "play time". Killing the baby isn't taking responsibility.

Condoms are cheap and can save your life which is a far bigger concern than pregnancy but apparently these gals don't give a sh-t about their own lives and yet their world will end if they dodge the death bullet and merely get pregnant.

WTF?

Why does this have to be like pulling teeth? You know you were speaking about abstinence from that first post about it. Can you skip the attempts at obfuscation next time?

This obviously has to do with morals, since there are many ways to prevent pregnancy but you are pushing one based on your moral beliefs about other methods.

I think that using a child as a punishment for making bad choices is really dumb. Children should be brought into this world into the arms of caring parents who are equipped and eager to take care of them.

Your morals seem to lead to the worst kind of adverse selection.

what fu cking moral beliefs about "others"? It's already been said that other methods of contraception are not 100%, abstinence is, so why would it not be a viable form of contraception?

"I'm" using the child? YOU are advocating KILLING the child. All I'm saying is that people should be taking responsibility for their actions. Something you feel they shouldn't have to do.

Again with the morals. You have NO IDEA what my "morals" are, why do you keep bringing up this line as if you do?

There aren't and I'm a proud dad. You?

I'm a proud father of 2 boys and step-father to 3 more. There are actually a few good reasons for abortion, health of the mother, rape, incest, health of the child. Probably a couple of others I may be missing. Sex selection and an alternative to birth control are certainly not on the list. The main point I always bring up in all these threads still remains as true. It is not my place to tell someone else what kind of choices they can make regarding their own body or health because it is not their place to tell me what I can or cannot do with my own body.

men could do alot to prevent abortions without creating laws that might hurt some women who seek truly therapeutic abrotions. They could take a role in the prevention of procreation. Condoms, male birth control, abstinence.

Condoms and male birth control are not 100% effective and I've been told that I am naive, unreasonable, and now, pushing my morals on others, for suggesting abstinence is a viable option. Obviously, those that support abortion don't feel that abstinence is a viable option.
