Why are many Christians so intolerant of other religions and spiritual paths?

It was about 1968 the phrase "doing your own thing" materialized and since then it's been mostly down hill! -:)
Are you saying that people who think for themselves, who are non conformists, who prefer to do their own thing instead of what is expected of them are a problem? It is the non conformists who bring new ideas and progress to humanity. Nothing new ever comes from the sheeple.

In our day, Cliffy tolerance has come to mean (PC) political correctness, best expressed in the platitude, "It's all good". Jesus never endorsed that.
No, I'm talking about people who think their way is the only way and are intolerant of anybody or belief that differs from theirs.

hahahahahaha....

I was just telling my guy today that there are a group of people with whom I swim in the morning.
There are two ways to do things: their way, and the wrong way.
I'm pretty sure, my way is the wrong way 99% of the time.
Then when I won't argue they get REALLY riled.
I just smile and keep on swimming.
This is something I've "finally" learned from my guy it's the who cares mentality. It ticks me off that most of my life I've needed to win and now I understand I've already won just by saying what I think regardless of the reaction.
Sometimes, I'm a slow learner.

see above for my new learning experience...I no longer care what they think about my opinions.

are you assuming people who think for themselves are a worrisome bunch, wow, i totally think the
opposite, i love the independent thinker, and not those who follow like sheep all of their
lives, and don't even notice what is really happening around them.

people who don't care what effect their actions have on others aren't in that catagorie, they
are aggressive and pushy toward others. or paranoid.

People who are offended are usually sheeple who are too afraid to be themselves. Seeing others be themselves is threatening to them.
I'm actually becoming cool with people being hostile to my opinion....

New Three F Rule:

If you aren't feeding me, fuking me, or financing me, then your opinion doesn't really matter.

Which leads to the fourth F = freedom

Blackie,

Jesus explicitly states a man should have only one wife

Then he should have banned Levirate marriage but did not. Interestingly, the Sadducee scribes (scholars) were all astonished at his wisdom for maintaining that part of the Mosaic law.

I believe you are referring to everyone here, Cliffy as everyone adheres to some system of belief/practice (religion):

Religion
1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life
2. system: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine
3. personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by
religion definition - Bing

And religion is by nature exclusive.

To further the discussion concerning the intolerance of Christ, Cliffy is to address truth. Truth is more exclusive than religion. Truth is intolerant.

Well, so much for ecumenicalism. All religions claim to know certain truths, on the basis of no evidence whatsoever, and they're not consistent with each other. Which is why I reject them all.

According to the definition, Dex atheism is a religion.

“To sustain the belief that there is no God, atheism has to demonstrate infinite knowledge, which is tantamount to saying, “I have infinite knowledge that there is no being in existence with infinite knowledge” (Ravi Zacharias)

A belief in infinite knowledge is a belief, is it not?

Actually I think your definition would be a believers view of Atheism.

From an Atheists perspective this is closer to what an Atheist is:

Atheism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.[1][2] In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities.[3][4][5] Most inclusively, atheism is the absence of belief that any deities exist.[4][5][6][7] Atheism is contrasted with theism,[8][9] which in its most general form is the belief that at least one deity exists.[9][10]

Walter, I am a little disappointed that you still haven't gotten over the childish habit of awarding "red negs", it doesn't bode well for your I.Q. -:)

No believer's bias here, Twila. It's the first definition of religion that popped up in the online search : ) What do you think about the "infinite knowledge" requisite postulated by Zacharias?

This quote:

I don't know why he'd think Atheism has to demonstrate anything, let along infinite knowledge.
