Have you seen the recent freak out over the proposed 2015 budget that would reduce the size of the US Army?
Have you taken a look at the "Ryan Budget" that the house of representatives just passed? While the whole point of that exercise is for the Republicans to show off what they would cut if they had the chance, the budget actually contains an increase in military spending.

Now I get a staph infection, I need to get it lanced, cleaned out and prescription of antibiotics. $130 covers the total cost..

There is a struggle going on within the conservative/libertarian movement between the establishment and insurgents. That's why Speaker Boehner is in danger of losing his position. The greatest sentiment among the Republican/Libertarian base is isolationist and focused on a small govt. A small govt. isn't able to maintain large standing military forces. Rand Paul is the voice of those folks.
You are talking about how to get people to vote on a healthcare bill. I showed you exactly how republicans are voting on issues like this. They are voting against cuts and for increases in military spending.
That is not just posturing, that is how they vote, which is explicitly what the issue is here.
It doesn't matter if there are some people in the country who would support that. We are talking about actually passing a bill in congress.

You would also face fines for not having health insurance, so this isn't really a fool proof plan.

My sister has breast cancer. Her pills alone are about $1800/mo. I would hate to think what her radiation and chemo treatments are worth. Then there was the double mastectomy and the surgery to remove the tumor from her brain. I would think a conservative guess would be $150,000 in treatments and doctor visits in the last 5 years. Would you rather pay $360/mo for that period or foot the $150k from your pocket?

Some hypothetical future change in the republican party has no bearing on how the republicans actually vote today and 4 years ago when the bill was passed.
I would be all for reducing military spending to fund healthcare, but the fact is that that would not have increased republican support for the bill and it would have scared off most of the democrats too.

They are shooting themselves in the foot on this....but they get healthcare coverage paid by the voters so can have treatment. :lol:
