he is a trained professional referee, he has to be looking to make sure the puck either crosses the line
or not, so he 'was' looking exactly at that place, and could not have missed it, i don't think he was
checking to see the make of the goalie's glove.
that is the 'point' of looking down at the puck at that precise moment, and that is exactly when the
player put his hand over it and pulled it back, it was half over the line.

I'm certainly not arguing that the ref was right here, but I don't really believe that the ref saw it and didn't call it.

My best guess is that he lost sight of the puck and didn't see it again until after the hand business happened.

Yep. Way to go girls!

British ref was an arsehole.

Wow! What a fabulous comeback by our ladies - they sooooooo rock! Epic collapse by the US and they had played so very well. Rock on Team Canada. :canada:

What a day for Hayley Wickenheiser - her 4th Olympic Gold and being named to the IOC - couldn't happen to a nicer person.

Rock on Hayley!

Hopefully the men will decide not to be outdone.

Well at least they will be playing a style of hockey they are more accustomed too, JLM.

As for our Golden Gals in hockey - I have to say that it was quite the day for our Rookie coach Kevin Dineen beating the famous Katie Stone. Rock on Kevin! Doubt he's missing the Panthers much now. LOL!

I didn't relax until the winning goal was scored. Talk about a "come from behind win" Can't get much better than that. The Americans were ahead 2 - 0 early in the third period.

Canada wins fourth straight women's hockey gold medal with thrilling win over U.S. - myTELUS News

I had to clean house for a friend today but in between vacuuming and cleaning I got to listen to the game on CBC radio. I was just leaving the house when my friend came running out and told me that we had tied the game. Turned the radio on as soon as I got into the car and when we scored the winning goal, I honked my horn all the way home - got big waves from the logging truck drivers who must have been listening too. What a day!

I think the insurance stuff is a bit different for the Olympics, but that is neither hear nor there.

Insurance doesn't replace a star player.

no, not in any aspect of the game, season play, training camp, a car accident, or the olympics, its just
life, they can't hide from possibilities, they must be positive and go forward knowing that anything
is possible, just like any sport. the players want to go, it is their dream, just like the other
athletes, they will deal with the injuries, just as they always do.

the only place where they protect themselves from injuries is in the all star game, where it is all
for promoting the game, not for results, medals, bragging rights, just a get together.

congrats to the canadian women's hockey team, just saw the latter part
of regulation, and the overtime, very nice.

I don't know exactly what you are referring to. If you are referring to the different insurance, that just refers to the fact that the insurance policies that the NHL takes out on their players wouldn't cover them while playing for the national team. Hockey Canada would have to obtain insurance for that.

If you are talking about the general risk of being hurt, it is different for the NHL because the players are at risk of injury while not playing for the NHL and making money for the NHL owners. There is a risk to players getting hurt in every NHL game, but there are also the benefits in terms of the money they make from playing that game. In this case, the NHL only takes on the risk of losing the player with none of the usual monetary benefits.

exactly, i knew that, i thought you were disagreeing with players going to the olympics because they might
be injured, thus hurting their teams chances when the nhl starts up again, that was my point, insurance
is only money, and they did haggle over olympic insurance coverage, but i'm sure they ironed it out
before they arrived there, or they would not have played without any insurance, period, that would
have been ridiculous and also not an option for them going, they would have stayed home.

the monetary benefits will be negotiated during the next four years, in which the nhl will want financial
benefits 'just' from sending their players, which will satisfy the owners/managers, as they whine and
complain because they are losing money, which is their main reason for having the teams in the first
place, profit, and bragging rights for themselves, none of them really care, like someone's mom or dad
about the players safety and good health, a player is profit, and when they go down, it is just a loss
of money, not actually missing the player as a person, it is ALL BUSINESS, nothing else for the owner, and the risk of losing or keeping one's job
for the g.m. who must have success, or else.

Bastard!!!!! I have it pvr'd and haven't seen it yet !!!!!!!
Oh well , I should of thought this through :(

I had to listen to the game on CBC radio, Bart as I was at work. I got home in time to see the gold medal ceremony. TSN is re-broadcasting both the Women's Bronze and Gold medal games tonight at 4 PM PST and I am going to watch both.

The Sochi Gold Medal Women's Hockey game had everything. High drama, controversy, bitter rivalry, horrendous officiating, victory in the jaws of defeat, a rookie coach vs a vet - yep, I'm looking forward to it and will cheer every single Canadian goal. Millions of people watched the game apparently and it is getting huge chatter all over the net. Glen Healy phoned in to the Bob McGowan show today. He said the atmosphere in the Ice Berg was absolutely electric. It was a capacity crowd - something even the Russian Men's hockey team couldn't pull off for some of their games.
