Race is definitely a cultural derived concept. And you have to go back further than the 15th century. It has its roots in family, clan and tribe. The ability to effectively stereotype and recognize differences between clans and tribes was probably an important thing.

Although race may not "exist" in science, they still have difficulty explaining the correltion between "race" and IQ--Asians score higher than whites score higher than blacks. While this is true, it's considered polite not to bring it up in academic company. :lol:
