Funny how this chart says "active mining footprint".
Just perform a satelite google OLD inactive mining footprints on Canadian soil and one would find a significant increase in the concept of 715 km. Google the Southern Border of B.C. Alberta and US corner, near Sparwood, Elkford and have a good look at some Massive black holes seen from far above the land, long before zooming in to a kilo above ground level.
Not sure who creates these - maps or statistics, but it is far from the reality of mining damage in Canada or current oil sands or otherwise damages.
Sigh....we are but plebians with really no full knowledge or say ....because huge corporations will always cover up their tracks or all the exact information of real land desecration or fallout of these massive projects.
Just like the GST, they will wait 20 years, until everyone forgets that the government said the GST was a TEMPORARY tax and wham it to people as a regular enforced tax...... Same for all these pipelines or projects. They pressure and wait until people forget..... or they force people out of jobs, closing down companies and then wait for starvation and people desperate for jobs..... don't think it does not happen. Westar Mining, Ocean Falls, and many other could add names of whole companies closed ....as not viable...then magically reopened mere 1 or 2 years later as viable...hmmmm
The current government of Harper just wants to sell Canada out from under our feet. How much of that company for Enbridge has off shore ownership? Do we really know? Canadian laws change rapidly for foreign investors to own 49% of companies. How long before foreign investment can legally own more than 50% of companies and bring in their foreign workers legally - for way less dollars, safety, protection and otherwise. Already happening in Western Pulp and Paper Industry.
sigh....One cannot serve two masters, ....the love of money is the root of all evil...
In saying all this: I am glad Neil Young and others are advocates against Enbridge Oil.
