Judging by my facebook feed, A&E had a stroke of brilliance. I've never heard so much about Duck Dynasty. The family is sending out poignant letters all across cyber space about how they and A&E are still working closely together to find a solution.

I'm quite certain both Duck Dynasty and A&E will come out richer in the end for all of this.

Since I have never watched the show I really don't care what they do or don't do. I am rather shocked that Duck Dynasty seems to be all the news now for about 3 days. Surely something else is going on in the world?

Ahh...Blacks were not slaves in the 1850s and sixties.

Duck Dynasty is the biggest thing ever for A&E, and they are not "protecting their interests", they are engaging in idiotic political correctness.

He did not say anything of the sort, nor is he a bigot.

Supporters of Duck Dynasty should bury A&E with letters, and the rest of the clan should refuse to film anymore.

They are in fact protecting their interests here. The show is only worth as much as advertisers are willing the pay to advertise during the program. If something like this chases away advertisers, it hurts their bottom line.

By taking some sort of action against him, it sends a clear message that they don't support his statements. This makes it easier for advertisers to continue to support the show without being viewed as supporting the views of this guy.

Lets look at Ma n' Pa. What lead Pa to become a fervent Born Yesterday Christian?

The odds their story is far off this trail is unlikely. Keep in mind this is not their story but I'll bet my left nut it is close.

Dirt poor hippy dropouts who married in their early teens, lived in a shack on the swamp, drank heavily, did drugs, spat out a litter of kids feeding them bush and swamp meat so they could drink and do more drugs with their welfare cheque as well as income from growing swamp pot.

Pot turns to cocaine and far more alcohol which leads to abuse and being punted from the shack a few times. Eventually police get called. After sitting in remand for a couple weeks drying out Pa is given the options by courts to go to rehab and anger management, keep his halfwit child bride with a litter of kids after a review by Child Protective Services or do 18 months in County taking a redneck spa vacation.

While in rehab Pa's suppressed neurons start to fire left right and center bringing a flood of no longer hazed over and buried memories of being abused as a young boy and the abuses he dealt out to his wife and kids and all the guilt and shame that goes along with it trips a relapse.

Pa binges to a new low but with repaired neurons intact, is hauled off before the Courts again. Pa fearing the worst is humbled by a judge who gives him a second chance at rehab because the judge believed that is what Jesus would do and Pa finally sees the patterns they talked about in rehab the first time when Pa was still in denial of his addictions, the roots of his woes and that the session he had to attend in rehab.

One day in rehab while eating lunch Pa starts talking to a fellow is leaving that afternoon and is a changed man. Pa asks how he did it, the man replies "Jesus guided me back to my family and a new life".

Pa still can't shake off the guilt and depression after another week without eating hits physical bottom and goes into psychosis.

A shrink is called and Pa is heavily sedated, rehydrated, and high caloric IV nutrition started.

Ma and the kids come to visit and they all start to cry when they see him in bed wired on Haldol.

Later that night while lucid dreaming he sees his family again but this time Jesus is hovering over them leading them back and he remembers the guy at lunch saying "Jesus guided me back to my family and a new life".

A few days go by and Pa is eating again. Not only has Pa been purged of the remaining drug and booze toxins but nicotine as well.

Not just nibbling but eating everything in sight. His new neurons want fat and more new connects are being made in droves.

Pa decides to try the Christian group one Sunday and fills those new neurons with links to Jesus guiding his family back to him.

As Pa keeps feeding his newly rewired brain he is also rewiring it with Born Yesterday beliefs.

Had he just stuck with what Jesus said and did without adding the Born Yesterday philosophy he wouldn't have turned out to be that kind a of a dry drunk Christian.

He didn't say what he is accused of saying. Read the GQ article

Well, it depends on what people are accusing him of saying. His words are down in black and white, and it is pretty easy to see how they may be problematic.

Reading the direct quotes, in the context of the question asked, his remarks are pretty clear. He has not said what people are going on about. While I do not share his opinion, it is just that.

Now A&E has every right to do what they want with their paid talent. They can suspend him or whatever else is stipulated in his contract. That said, I am with karrie on this, I think they saw an opportunity to get free publicity and ran with it.

It wasn't A&E that started the hoopla over this. There was a big reaction online and from organizations like GLADD.

I have read the article and I do think that his comments are pretty questionable. You know you are going to run into trouble when you mention homosexuality in the same breath as bestiality.

And the hoopla got what A&E and Duck Dynasty could never get on their own. National front page news coverage for three days running .. GLADD must be happy with the rule of unintended consequences .LOL

They are a pretty media savvy organization so they know what will happen when they do something like this.

Their mission isn't to crush Duck Dynasty or A&E. Their mission is to promote positive and inclusive messages about LGBT people in the media, and combat what they see as anti LGBT messages. This attracts a lot of attention all around, but that includes attention for the message that GLADD is trying to get out there

Yes the message that Christian views are bad and every one should bow down and embrace their behavior .Oh and we should all walk lock step and not have different opinions .

There is no such thing as bad publicity

Meaning

Literal meaning.
Origin

The idea that no publicity can do harm is clearly open to question. For someone seeking notoriety and a somewhat scandalous reputation, like Marie Lloyd and Mae West in days gone by, or Paris Hilton in our era, that may be true. The shareholders of BP and Toyota, which have both suffered falls in their market price due to worldwide publicizing of their recent difficulties, may feel differently.
'There's no such thing as bad publicity' is often associated with Phineas T. Barnum, the 19th century American showman and circus owner. Barnum was a self-publicist of the first order and never missed an opportunity to present his wares to the public. As with many other supposed quotations, there's no hard evidence to link the 'bad publicity' quotation to him.
The proverbial expression began to be used in the early 20th century. The earliest version that I have found in print is from the US newspaper The Atlanta Constitution, January, 1915:
All publicity is good if it is intelligent.
The thought behind the proverb had been expressed earlier by Oscar Wilde:
The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.
Probably the most celebrated adapter of the expression was another great wit from the Dublin literary scene, the Irish Republican and "drinker with a writing problem", Brendan Behan. Behan's boisterous lifestyle meant that for him, more than others, there was truth in his opinion that:
There's no such thing as bad publicity except your own obituary.

Yes the message that Christian views are bad and every one should bow down and embrace their behavior .Oh and we should all walk lock step and not have different opinions .

The source of his views is really irrelevant. People are not disagreeing with his statements because they are "christian", they disagree because they are offensive. Religion is not an excuse for prejudice. You are responsible for whatever comes out of your mouth.

People are more than free to have different opinions. This is a perfect example of that. A&E and this guy have different points of view. He is free to say what he wants and A&E is free to decide if they want to associate with him or not.

Rights do not exist in a vacuum. Other people have rights too.

There are two separate issues that seem to be going on. First is whether or not what he said was grossly ignorant and hateful, in my view it was not. It was simply his opinion, based on his faith, of what he considers sin. I don't agree with it, but from the article I read he did not in fact compare homosexuality to bestiality, what he did was list a laundry list of what he considers 'sinful' of which they were both a part. Now, I don't agree with his views on sin, but I don't think anything he said came from hate. Which is why I don't see what the big fuss is really all about.

The second thing is whether or not A&E should have suspended him and/or the show. They're a private operation, they can do whatever they want. Can't say I agree or disagree, but I do seem to recall that the bounty hunter was similarly suspended when he reportedly made some racial slurs that became public. So I have to say, at least they're consistent.

did you all like this show?

Not sure if I remember that one but I did enjoy Unsolved Mysteries and American Justice. But I never watch A&E now, none of their programming appeals to me.

He never received any credit for this belief. Just what the wankers did not like.
However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."
