The difference being that the British nationalists are right and the Americans nationalists are just beliving in fairytales and mythology.
The truth of the matter is that Froggy started attacking the British colonies in North America. The British came over and defeated the French, thus bailing out the British colonies. Then when the British, quite RIGHTLY, asked the British people in those colonies to pay for the war that we won for them, they threw their dummies out of the pram and wanted independence.
You don't find all this in any Yankee Doodle history book though. Oh no. They have the Yanks believing that evil Britain was taxing them to the hilt and the colonists fought against those taxes, when the reality is that the colonists were extremely pampered and paid just a miniscule amount of taxes that the British paid back home. The vast majority of the colonists had no problem with paying these taxes and most were against independence (some estimates put the colonists' support for American independence at just 30%). Indeed, many colonists fought with the British against the Yankee nationalists.
Also, as I've pointed out, French involvement in the conflict bankrupted France and sowed the seeds for the French Revolution.
Britain was alright though. The wealthiest nation on the planet easily paid off its War of Independence debts, so France emerged from the conflict worse off than Britain.
It's just nice to point out the inconvenient truths to the Yanks every now and then. It's just up to them whether they choose to accept them. It's not my problem.
