You keep insisting on using this thread as a soapbox to call Justin Trudeau a "fag." You seem to be on that topic like a starving chihuahua on a pork chop. I never said I was against the VOTERS recalling him and I agreed with Ski on this earlier...
What I'm against is the council "clique" doing it with the aid of left wing newspapers and a police chief who wants to pave the way for a friend to become Mayor....
What you are for and everyone is watching right now is tantamount to a "Coup-d'état" on a municipal scale and not (with emphasis) Democracy....

Well, you should realize that that is what I was talking about with him. We should have a mechanism to recall the mayor so that they are always accountable, not just once every 4 years.

Ford is telling everyone it is a coup, but in reality he has not lost any of the powers that legally belong to his office. He has lost some powers that council has allocated to the mayors office, but since they were allocated by council, council also has the right to reallocate those powers.

Since those powers are ultimately the responsibility of council, they have a fiduciary duty to ensure that they are well minded. I can definitely understand why, given recent events, they do not feel that Ford is up to that responsibility right now.

It's difficult to get rid of Ford, but then again it should be. In a democarcy the voice of the people should be considered sacrosanct. We wouldn't want to make it too easy for non-democratic means of removal from office. If I understand correctly, he can be removed from office if convicted of a serious offence. Currently he's been convicted of no offence.

I also understand that the members of council are democratically elected, and acted within their ambit to strip Ford of some of his powers, which seems appropriate, since it was done by a vote of duly elected representatives.

And Ford will have his chance to win another term as Mayor in the near future, unless his downward spiral continues.
