Why can't someone have a f**King opinion without you always hijacking it? You should remember that just by the law of averages half the opinions are better than yours!

I see how it works.....colpy can have the "opinion" that those that support the White Poppy are morons but I can't have the "opinion that he is a twat.

You can have any opinion you like. Have 2 for all I care. I don't judge the opinion as much as I judge the source and you are a similar source to the back end of a cow.

All three were very good films. You should watch them, and the Band of Brothers series.

You might learn something about sacrifice.

These idiots with the white poppies have every right to wear them, it is a free country, thanks to the men they are insulting.

But to try to insert themselves in a ceremony meant to honour those that fought is in incredibly poor taste, thoughtless, and santimonious.
I don't see how it insults veterans and the fallen to support peace. I mean, isn't that what the veterans and the fallen were doing? It's what they told me at insufferable length and repetition for the twelve years I wore the blue.

Group reconsiders handing out white poppies at ceremony

OTTAWA — The pacifist group behind a "white poppy" pin campaign is reconsidering whether to hand them out at next week's national Remembrance Day ceremony.
"Certainly we don't want to cause a disruption or offend anybody," Rideau Institute president Steven Staples said Wednesday.
He also said his group only produced about 2,500 pins, featuring the slogan "I Remember for Peace." Staples suggests it's possible they'll run out of the freely distributed pins by Remembrance Day.
The Rideau Institute unveiled the pins Monday with the help of a University of Ottawa activist who said they were meant for young people who "don't want to celebrate war."
The total cost of the poppies was about $1,000, from non-tax deductible donations collected through the year.
Veterans Affairs Minister Julian Fantino called the campaign "totally disrespectful," and the Royal Canadian Legion said veterans would be personally offended by efforts to piggyback on a time to remember their sacrifice.
Staples says he only want to get people talking about military sacrifice.
"I think at this point we're looking at whether we have accomplished what we wanted to do, which was to prompt a discussion," he said. "I think we're always looking at what the next steps will be and making sure that's in keeping with what we want to do."
In the past, the Rideau Institute has distributed stickers and other items with the same "I Remember for Peace" slogan, but this campaign was the first that placed the slogan on a white poppy.

Just a P R decision for an obviously unpopular idea of running their campaign at the same time as an almost 100 year tradition......

Funny, I feel the same way about you.

The only thing is, I can actually back mine up with a mountain of your posts to prove it, lol.

The white poppy's been around since 1926, a few years after the red one.

I think the hostility comes from those that hold the belief the Red Poppy glorifies war.
And the way Mr. Staples was driving his agenda. In my opinion he held that belief.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Egg.

It means that to me too DaS, along with other things, but does the red poppy find its birth in the poem?

Some are insulted, not all. Veterans are just as diverse with their views and opinions as the population at large. Ive read pieces by veterans both against and for this white poppy. Some like it, some dont, just like the general population.

I'm only wearing red. I have no problem with what the message behind the white poppy, but I feel that the red one is already doing that. Plus I just happen to prefer red aesthetically.

Then someone will have to explain how this doesn't sort of doesn't promote the furtherance of conflict...

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Does it really matter if some do? It seems to me the only thing that's offensive about this whole controversy are the people who tell others what things are supposed to mean. That's for each to decide for themselves as far as I'm concerned.
