I think it was the beards that did it. St. Louis' well trimmed, formal, urban foliage just couldn't compete with the full growth Benedictine beards and shaved heads of the Red Sox. They probaby got that from the 2011 Bruins playoff gear.

The LA Dodgers had the same thing, but opped for pony tails or Mohawks on top.. real backwoods Coureur de Bois stuff.. probably got that from the 2012 Kings

I would normally have supported the BoSox.. but not this year.. and it all has to do with their manager John Farrell who bailed out of his managerial role after 2 years with Toronto to return to Boston.

Not that i blame him.. he moved from a $120mm to a $160mm payroll.. a contender.. and gets to manage in venerable old Fenway Park.. with its history and natural turf and rabid fan base.. instead of the multipurpose, energy-sapping fiasco that is Roger's Centre.. in a hockey hotbed like Toronto.

But basically he made some promises, and some promises were made to him (in terms of a significantly increased payroll and a guaranteed term in which to build a winner).. which he DISCARDED as soon as something better came along.

He went through two much classier managers on his route to the Championship in Jim Leyland of Detroit and Mike Matheny of St. Louis.. on the back of a team that others built for him

It worked out for him, but my guess is this will be his one and only Chamionship.. but regardless.. for me he'll ALWAYS be a no class BUM.

Well that is Pro Sports for you Coldstream. When better offers come up, pro athletes and managers take them for the most part. Sure some will stick around but for the most part they will bolt. The pros are well aware of the fickleness of fans and management and when roles are reversed management will dump loyal players and coaches for presumed better players and coaches.

Besides... he got us this!

We crushed the Brits on their home turf. LMAO

Not when we got three times as many gold medals as you on a per capita basis, you didn't.

Again, this is another instance of the Yanks thinking they are world beaters in something when they aren't, and it's actually only their large population misleading them into thinking they are.

The fact is that had Britain had the same population as the USA, we would have had three times as many gold medals as you.

The British Olympics team wiped the floor with the US Olympics team. On the most accurate Gold Medals Table - that of a per capita basis - Britain was in the Top 10 whereas the US was just about in the Top 20 and Canada just scraped into the top 50.

Am I the only one who'd love to give them each a good slap, especially that one giving the Hitler salute?

You guys got owned in your own back yard Blackie.... A good ole fashioned American-style beating was visited on you...

I was ashamed as a Canadian to even be remotely considered part of the Commonwealth via the horse-whipping that you Brits suffered in your own nation

I'd pay big money to see you try... In fact, I'd even kick in to cover your medical bills once any one of these women (on their worst day) sent you to intensive care.

Mind you, with any luck, she'd knock out most of those snaggle teeth in your head and you could travel to Canada to get some decent dental care and a possible rebuild to make you look at least 1/2 way normal

Yeah.. but that's what's ruining pro sports.

When Lebron James had his NBA sponsored Press Conference announcing he was leaving Cleveland, the town that had nurtured him and supported him and offered to match any other offer.. to go to Party Central USA in South Beach and a guaranteed championship in a globally recognized 'hot and sexy' market.. far from the old rust belt in Ohio.. He was booed for next 2 years around the league. It seemed to backfire big time for the NBA.. certainly in terms of its reputation and integrity.. and in terms of the playoff ratings.

He's a no class Bum too.

America only picks on the little guy. It never picks on bigger boys - unless she has Britain or someone else alongside her - because it knows it'll lose.

The fact is, as I've PROVED, is that Britain would have won three times as many gold medals as the US had the two countries' populations been the same.

On that basis, Britain finished in the Top 10 and the US just about scraped into the Top 20. Canada fared even worse (not enough snow and ice for Canadian sportsmen).

In other words, Britain whopped the Yanks good and proper, as did 26 other nations.

The only reason why the US won more gold medals than Britain was because of its larger population.

The US has five times as many people as Britain has, yet won just 1.6 times more gold medals. This is NOT a stat for the Yanks to be typically arrogant and shouty about. It should be a stat to SHAME them.

The US did NOT whop Britain. It was Britain that gave the US a good caning right across its bare backside.

I was ashamed as a Canadian to even be remotely considered part of the Commonwealth via the horse-whipping that you Brits suffered in your own nation

I was ashamed that was Canada part of the Commonwealth considering how low you finished in the medals table.

It was a pathetic, feeble performance from the Canucks.

Those eejits in that picture are very slappable. They've got that attitude which makes you just want to slap them good and proper, especially the little Nazi giving the Hitler salute.

Interesting comment... Weren't you stating that your nation was/is among the 'big boys'?

If your Aunt had balls, she would be your Uncle.

Hell, maybe she does have balls... I think I'm starting to see your point

Ya know Blackie... I've had a lot of fun yanking your chain these last 3 or so weeks.

By in large, I've had the opportunity to meet many Brits over the years, and as a general rule, found them to all to be intelligent, engaging and highly interesting... That said, you are the exception to the rule.

PS - I'm still game to help fund your healthcare expenses as they relate to the thrashing anyone of those American female athletes would visit on you... Let's explore that option some more, OK?

Per capita... for the Olympics! You poor desperate soul.

They would kick you butt all over the place BL. They'd smack you silly.

Fact....
The US spends 10 times more than most developed nations on their olympic athletes. You guys haven't had a real amateur athlete since the 60s so you don't have a whole lot to brag about. It's kinda like us Canadians bragging about beating the British at hockey.

There are plenty of other ways to make BL look like a moron that are much fairer comparisons. Please do continue with those, it is more fun to watch than any baseball game.

Congratulations Boston, I understand you have won a prestigious trophy or stick of some sort after having defeated every beesball team in the world. I don't follow the game very closely so I have been taken by complete surprise by the global celebrations. It must be nice to be #1.

Inotice the thread has veered off into the Olympics. Has this Team from Boston excelled there as well?

It's true, isn't it?

The fact that the USA won just 1.6 times as many golds as Great Britain, despite having five times as many people, shows it was a pretty poor showing from the USA and a pretty good one from GREAT Britain.

They would kick you butt all over the place BL. They'd smack you silly.

Would they? In every single sport? Why didn't these Yankee sporting superhumans smack the British silly in the cycling and the rowing, a sport which Britain dominates the world at?

British athletes dominated the medal standings in cycling, wherein they won a total of 12 Olympic medals, including 8 golds, 7 from the 10 track cycling events alone, and in equestrian, wherein they won 5 medals including 3 golds from 6 events. Great Britain also topped the medal table in triathlon, boxing and rowing.

Why did these American sporting superhumans - who, like their superhuman military counterparts are superior to the British in every way - allow the British to completely dominate the world in the cycling, equestrian, triathlon, boxing and rowing at London 2012?

We even won gold in shooting, despite being a nation in which most of us have never seen a gun in real life.

Here are a couple of facts that you might not like, starting with my favourite - Britain is the ONLY country to have won at least one gold medal at EVERY modern Summer Olympic Games.

I'll say it again: only ONE country has won gold medals at EVERY Summer Olympics - and that country is Great Britain.

The Great Britain Olympics team was targeting 48 medals in total and fourth in the medals table at London 2012 - it won 65 medals and finished third.

Meanwhile... Why it is the Prince of England in a Nazi uniform!

That was back in 2005. Get with the times.

The United States WON the Olympics in London.

Nobody "won" the Olympics. There were 26 sports at the London 2012 Olympics. It wasn't a tournament in one sport.

The fact is that Britain performed better than the USA.

Royal Mail created a stamp in honour of each of GREAT Britain's gold medal winners

Has this Team from Boston excelled there as well?

No, because despite the fact that someone bragged earlier on in this thread that they see baseball at the Olympics but not cricket, I can't recall seeing much baseball at London 2012.

Perhaps... but I wouldn't threaten to slap them on the computer.

It was a halloween party.
And that was no Hitler salute for the Woman Basketball player!

He's the one saying they actually won... per capita! ffs!! Are you going daft on us?

I have a lot to brag about when it comes to the Olympics and I don't have to make up s*** to back me up. It is all there for all to see in records and medal count!

Check it!

Britain won 29 golds, not 26.

And it is YOU who should be ashamed.

I mean, how is winning just 1.6 times as many golds and 1.6 times as many medals in total than a country five times smaller than you anything to brag about?

Face it, America's performance was pretty feeble.

So ES, what about on a per-dollar basis? Do you disagree that the US spends many times what other developed countries do on olympic athletes? We all know money makes a difference. We know that professional vs amateur makes a difference. Are not all your athletes really professionals? Don't they all attend university on scholarships and train full-time? It is no different than the old Soviet Red-Army. I would like to see how things would come out if the amateur status was actually cared about and upheld. I'm not saying the US wouldn't do well, just they probably wouldn't do as well if they couldn't send 200 pros.

BL - STFU! You are an idiot and make Brits look stupid. The glory days of England's military are long gone and you turning everything into a win for Britain by twisting facts and moving goalposts is asinine. Time for a reality check there mate. Time for you to leave your bedroom in your mom's subsidized council flat in the slum of Bolton, get off the dole and get a grip on reality.

So this is day what of "well we can't be having you happy about a hometown team winning anything" childishness? Has it been a solid week yet?

Really, really laughable.

Hope you're having as much fun with it Eaglesmack as you seem to be. ;)
