it drives me fuking crazy, there's no logic involved... although have to say, I was that way about little Shrub but he didn't have two brain cells to rub together and my feelings for him came about as close as it is possible to hating a stranger who is pitifully challenged.

Politicians tend to drive me all crazy equally. Maybe because I'm always more interested in looking for the "other angle", lol. I just assume that if candidate A is driving me crazy then there's got to be some stuff about candidate B that's being overshadowed at the moment, that would drive me equally nuts.

Politicians, insurance adjusters, CRA auditors....they all circle that one level of hell.

It was added in '54 by a Joint Resolution of Congress.

If you're going to argue about stupid sh*t that ain't none of your business anyhow, at least get your facts right.

83RD UNITED STATES CONGRESS
2ND SESSION

Joint Resolution
To amend the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
That section 7 of the joint resolution entitled ``Joint resolution to codify and emphasize existing rules and customs pertaining to the display and use of the flag of the United States of America´´, approved June 22, 1942, as amended (36 U. S. C., sec. 172), is amended to read as follows:

``Sec. 7. The following is designated as the pledge of allegiance to the flag, ‘I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all’. Such pledge should be rendered by standing with the right hand over the heart. However, civilians will always show full respect to the flag when the pledge is given by merely standing at attention, men removing the headdress. Persons in uniform shall render the military salute.´´

Approved June 14, 1954.

Such a nice way of saying things- I read 1942, and in haste. My apologies for being FFn human.

SJP has superior intellect.

First documented use of 'under God' that I have found is 1948 and it is a phrase taken from the Gettysburg address. Sorry SJP.

.

Hey! We have every right to argue about things that are none of our business with or without facts! That is the purpose of the internet. In fact, having no facts in an argument is generally the preferred method online.

Its as bad as the Canadian National Anthem they added the God stuff later
to impress some voters I suppose. God this and God that, it's all fluff.
I am not an atheist however I don't think we need the God in the pledge and
we don't need the songs of the nation turning into prayers and even on the
witness stand we hear so help me God. Now how significant is that?
If someone doesn't believe in God it means nothing. If someone believes in
God and happens to be a liar it won't stop them from not being truthful.
Its nonsense

Our national anthem had God in it from the very beginning. We didn't have to add it. We've even got it in the title.

And unlike in the PC US, there is no talk here of removing that word from the anthem, thankfully.

It has nothing to do with "PC." Our Constitution forbids Congress making laws respecting an establishment of religion.

Britain has a state religion. Discrimination against Catholics, Jews, and others are a long-practiced English tradition.

Our laws are different. Big shock.

It's called political correctness.

Because it's funny how all this guff about "Our Constitution forbids Congress making laws respecting an establishment of religion" is only coming out now in these silly PC times and has never bothered hardly anybody in the previous 58 years.

Just like discrimination against blacks and the Indians is a long-practised American tradition.

By the way, "practiced" in your sentence should be spelt with a C not an S. It's a verb, not a noun.

No country has a squeaky clean history. Like most countries the US learned from their mistakes and changed. Still needs improvement but that also could be said for every country.

If I lived in the UK I might. I don't and it doesn't affect me so I don't care.

Times and people change as do cultures.
