"In an interview with Global TV’s The West Block on Sunday, Trudeau said he would “absolutely” welcome Harb back once he “balances” his books"
Justin Trudeau says he’d welcome back Senator Mac Harb | World | News | National Post

Yeah... A wee issue of balancing his books to the tune of $50k in housing expenses alone... An accounting error no doubt

That's old news. Trudeau has since said otherwise. Try and keep up. I know its difficult for those that rely on others to tell them what to think.

As an MP, Trudeau shouldn’t be charging the public for speeches

Quickly now: What do the following have in common? No Googling necessary.

  • London Health Sciences Centre ($20,000)
  • Ontario Library Association ($10,000)
  • The Learning Partnership ($10,000)
  • Waterloo Catholic District School Board ($15,000)
  • Ontario Public Service Employees Union ($20,000)
  • Charity of Hope, Hamilton ($15,000)
  • Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board ($15,000)
  • Kincardine District Secondary School ($10,000)
  • Queen’s University ($12,000)
  • Literacy for Life, Saskatoon ($20,000)
  • Canadian Mental Health Association, Halton region ($20,000)
  • Grace Foundation, St. John ($20,000)
First, they are all not-for-profit organizations.

A school board paid him 15,000 dollars!? That's my tax dollars, damn it! No, I don't blam Trudeau here: business is business. But what was that school board thinking?

And as for the charities, well now we know what charities to not give to, eh.

So what you're really saying is that baby-t doesn't know where he stands on the issue, stating to one media outlet that Mac's welcome back and apparently to another that he's not?

Not that big a surprise I guess..... He sure had some interesting things to say on French radio about Quebec and the West, so it's no surprise that he has multiple answers prepared on their internal problems

This what is surprising about the whole Duffy thing... In all likelihood, all of the parties have the same skeletons in the closet and by shining light on one, you open the door to all.

They are all pork-barrelling a-holes, but this whole Duffy thingy will come back to kick everyone in the a$$... Maybe it is a good thing after all
I could care less about parties. It's individuals that tend to f things up. The Senate is a sick joke funded by hard working Canadians.

Agreed... This issue isn't about partisanship, at least it shouldn't be.
It's about greed and arrogance. Those are human traits. You don't need a party backing you to be greedy and arrogant.

I watched Mansbridge interview Wallin the other night. She keeps claiming she was trying to save money by making as many stops as possible in her travels.

There was only one point she made that had any credit and that was that it's a bitch to get to S'Toon or Regina from Eastern Canada by air.

To get to WPG from Regina you have to fly Air Canada in a prop plane for $500 or fly to Calgary first From Regina then to WPG on West Jet.

It's cheaper to get to San Diego from here than to WPG which is only 350 miles away.

There is no excuse for it, the demands is there but airlines just won't accommodate.

Absolutely and with any luck, they might consider a mass audit of the Senate and possible the House members.

Chances are that the scope and depth of graft will make Duffy/Wallin look like boy-scouts

Some time ago now, but I shelled-out $1,800 to get from Calgary to Fort Nelson, BC with 3 stops in between... Air Canada if I recall and they were able to gouge people simply because they could.

That fare was between 3/4 and 4/5 the cost to get to Melbourne

It's ridiculous. It's $120 cheaper to fly to Shanghai from here than it is to Halifax.

... And the corporate barin-trust of Canadian carriers wonders why they are so despised.

With that in mind, we need to pay special homage to the gvt for taxing the crap out of the industry with all the fees, surcharges, etc... The good ole gvt looking out for us!.. Yes, sir, they sure are doing us all these favours

Meet the four culprits in Trudeau’s clumsy, banal speaking fees mess

It’s been a truly dreadful week for Canadian public life, but at least people have been given a rare glimpse into the privileged nature of how the wealthy and elite conduct their lives.

I speak of boy Trudeau, his speaking fees, his enablers and media sycophants.

There are four culprits in the case around the Liberal leader taking $20,000 to speak to a charity that supports a nursing home for seniors.

First, Trudeau himself. He’s independently wealthy, he is handsomely paid to be an MP, and he has never and will never have to worry about money and comfort.

As a private citizen he can charge corporations what he wants, but surely personal morality and integrity would come into play when agreeing to take such a huge amount from such a deserving charity. He could have asked for expenses, even a token honorarium, but he didn’t.

Re: More shiny ponyness

This entire "issue" (read: non-issue) was invented by Her Majesty's Government for Canada.

Staffers from the Office of the Prime Minister, acting on the instructions of The Right Honourable Stephen Harper P.C., M.P. (Calgary—Southwest), began the ridiculous rounds of media advisories that saw this issue first brought up. (We also know now, of course, that the prime minister's staff have been spending tax-paid time inventing and participating in protests against Mr. Justin Trudeau M.P. (Papineau), the Leader of the Liberal Party.)

Add to the ridiculousness of the entire situation the fact that the director of the non-profit organisation that demanded repayment from Mr. Trudeau was not acting with the consent of her board and, in fact, is the wife of Mr. Glen Baxter, a board member of the Conservative Riding Association (Fundy Royal). The lengths that the Conservative Party will take to discredit Mr. Trudeau are only demonstrative of the slow and steady start of the Conservatives' tailspin right out of power.

That will come back to haunt him... Playing the game of 'never charging money while speaking as an MP' is disingenuous.

The public that is daft enough to believe that will think he's lying and the other 1/2 of the public that catches onto the play on words will see him as a slimey guy

Alberta leadership experience offers gloomy omen for Trudeau Liberals

Fabulous eh.

An interesting thing happened a few weeks before Justin Trudeau arrived in Calgary on the weekend to horn in uninvited on Premier Alison Redford’s Stampede breakfast.

The local Liberal party, which was the first to adopt a system allowing uncommitted “supporters” to choose its leader, dropped the experiment after just two years and one election.

It didn’t work, they said. Yes, there was a sudden surge in interest during the leadership campaign, but hardly anyone signed up for membership after the vote, and the party got whipped in the next election.

As reported by the Edmonton Journal,

Best he keep making those speeches and taking that money because he won't be Prime Minister and when that becomes apparent he'll leave public to go back to private.
