Speaking honestly, for myself, I was born into my religion. I remain in my religion because, honestly speaking, all religions suffer the same faults.
As for making excuses for the nutcases, no one here has done that. The defining characteristic is that if and when moderate Muslims attempt to say 'we do not support the actions of these nutcases', it is not accepted the same way as when Christians speak out against their nutcases.
