You are leaving yourself wide open there, Tex

Its a political correctness running wild pap snowball.. lets just say it 'GOT ALL OF THE ATTENTION IT DESERVED'.
Feel free to take your shot.

But, if you re-read the article carefully, you will note it was not "a" comment, it was two comments, one made to the face of a Jewish person in circumstances that make out a prima facie case of creating a hostile work environment.

UH -HUH. And if the comment had been directed towards any one of the three slavic, one teutonic, one celtic ethnic group that make up my heritage- It woudl have been seen as an outburst by a harried working mom with a sick baby.

Not as an intolerable mass insult to the Chosen Race...

I'm actually amazed how many closet bigots against Jews there are out there. Like all strong feelings, they do find a way to surface no matter how deep you try to bury them. Right, Mel Gibson, David Ahenakew and soon-to-be-out-of-work lawyer?

Mind you, I guess I fall victim to stereotypes too. Maybe we all do to some extent. Part of the problem is that we can't talk about it. One guy did a study years ago and found that Asians outscore whites who outscore blacks on IQ tests. All known confounding variables were accounted for, but the result still stood. Rather than examine why this might be the case, the guy who did the study was crucified. Then liberals declared there was actually no such thing as race, and therefore the entire line of enquiry was boarded up.

Honestly, it would depend on context.

If I was working in a predominantly black office for example, and was told 'I hate white people', that would be a hostile work environment.

But, let's be honest, I'm a white Catholic. I'm probably never going to be in a work environment where I'm the minority and being told 'my kind' are hated.

Are you talking about that moron who wrote The Bell Curve?

If that's the one, he was not crucified for his IQ test results, but for the "reasoning" he based on his results, i.e. that black people are unfit for the "more responsible" positions in society. His argument was basically that because white people on average have higher IQs than black people, therefore a white dull-normal was better suited to be a Senator or a university president than a black genius.

Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt your busy schedule of supporting religious discrimination in the workplace.

You are having fantasies about my rather mundane life...........

However,I just noticed that you made what appears, onthe face of it, to be a slur against Athiests of Jewish ethnic origin!

I love when men try to talk down to women on forum, dropping 'm'dear's and 'missy's throughout their posts. It's especially amusing when they're talking to men.

That is what I enjoy about new members - they rush to judge, think they see an opening, gonna slam that right back at ya, but in the end they make ludicrous allegations.

Ok- I was spoofing the topic. However, if some guy cut in front of me & my newborn for "medical care',I'd have a few words to say, too..
Even if he was sporting earlocks & spodiks.

The whole affair smacks of 'politically correct ballyhoo'.Note that the 'initial qeue jumping' was permitted by the Hospital..

So you'd lay blame upon an entire group of people for the actions of one man too?

I noted earlier you stated that she was "having a bad day". No, she wasn't. Being frustrated at and complaining about the one guy who jumped in front of her would have been expressing her bad day. Stating that she hates an entire group of people is not anti-politically correct 'ballyhoo', it's just bigoted. Period.

She was informed it was offensive- She decided to repeat it. The person that lodged the complaint was not the type to sit back and do nothing. The company did next to squat- they have polices.

Note that this was taken to the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority - Appears another mishandling by the company.

So I will go out on a limb and imply the company was not up to snuff as they say, on what was required to be done.

Were the penalties and discipline that these policies call for implemented? I doubt it.

Next and last - Merry old England still has a class system that is up and running.

From the article.
After making her comment, the unnamed cashier said: 'Please do not say that' but Mrs Morris added: 'I don’t care, I cannot stand them.'

Three months after the incident in December 2009, the cashier left the law firm - then brought a racial and religious claim against Mrs Morris and the practice and won an undisclosed sum in damages.

Mrs Morris herself was then hauled before the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority after a further complaint of discrimination by the cashier.

It emerged the matter 'snowballed' despite the lawyer trying to apologise on three occasions - but the cashier refused to meet with her.
