In a book written by Canada's greatest political cartoonist, Roy Peterson call Frog Fables and Beaver Tales, he called BC Lotus Land. It stuck in my mind. Nothing sinister here.

I think he was speaking about the rainbow mindset of the BC hippies of the 60's and 70's. I wasn't a rainbow hippy. I was a bush hippy.

Without trying to be difficult, at one time the hippies were the largest group of unwashed and they arrived in Vancouver
from everywhere in Canada, Drawn, I guess, by dope and the warmer weather. In it's glory days, Fourth Avenue was the home of cheap
dope and police were surprisingly scarce........for a while.
