Ellen Paré scolded after court case reveals she paid under the table | News | National Post

Quebec Court Judge Ellen Paré was so unhappy with the cracked granite counter installed in her kitchen in 2009 that she and her husband went to small-claims court to get their money back.

But instead of a full refund, the judge received a scolding from one of her peers after evidence revealed that the work had been done under the table in order to avoid taxes.

“This contract was made for cash payments in contravention of tax law, with an ultimate goal of depriving the community of taxes,” Quebec Court Judge Jimmy Vallée wrote in the Dec. 3 ruling, which came to light this week. “Just as surprisingly, the parties do not even seem to want to hide it!”

According to the decision, the couple hired Atelier Granite Nature Inc. of the Montreal suburb of Laval to install a kitchen counter. Judge Paré testified that when she returned home to see her new Nero Black Rock counter, she noticed a crack by the sink and immediately called the contractor to complain.

She and her husband, Jean Robitaille, left for a trip to Europe that night, and when they returned, two more cracks had appeared, she testified. She also said the counter was not properly polished.

No not suspended. Removed from the bench and disbarred. Period. Too harsh? Not at all, this is someone who sits in judgement of others. Her credentials must be impeccable!

hahahaha.... looks good on her.

Ew SLM I like that...yes!!

Here's one for you. Someone I know had some cabinet work done in her kitchen. She thought the work done was inferior and took him to small claims.. She got up on the stand and wouldn't STFU. apparently spoke for 45 minutes

Later the ruling went against her because the judge said: The work done was inferior and I could order him to fix it, but that will not satisfy you and we will be back here again. Because lady your standards are so high, and what you expect so over the top that I don't think Jesus Christ himself could make a cabinet that could satisfy you.
