I like the way I am and ain't afraid to tell folks what I believe.
I like you as you are too Walter, I like people who just put it out there, honestly and unabashedly. But geezus, there's no need to embarrass yourself so monumentally.

Before the "Bleeding Hearts, Advocates for Social Change and Civil Rights Activists" start ranting and raving about Indian rights they should be asked about this news broadcast and how they justify the inequalities within the Indian bands themselves.

Although not everything Ezra said was true, I have no doubt that there is graft, sloth, corruption and waste. I've been railing against that kind of crap for years.

I'd like to ask all though, why is it so many are so quick to believe the graft, sloth, corruption and waste, but stand stalwart against any truth that doesn't paint First Nations in a bad or unfavourable light?

Yes, I am bigotted against fat people because they chose to be that way. And I don't believe in any of this bigboned, genetic, glandular crap either. Being fat is a choice.

So, I know a few fat people who are nice people, the shape of a person isn't all that important and besides fat people do better if they get really sick. But I know you are sh8ttn us!-:)

ya, it's called baffle with bullshyte.

I don't think so. "R" is just one method of measuring insulation, if you go to Google you will find Petros is also correct. -:)

I don't see it that way. I've seen many examples of Native People doing good by their people. The Tli Cho Nation in the NWT is heavily invested in the development of their communities and I have worked with a good deal of descent people from Six Nations.

The issue here lies in the inability of some to be transparent. The money that went to Chief Spencer's reserve wasn't chump change and I believe that if any department or group in Canada is going to receive funding through tax dollars they should be accountable for how they distribute those funds.

As to the the people of First Nations finding a settlement in regard to land claims, you know where I stand, but I am also a firm believer that the present system is a bureaucratic disaster and I'm growing weary of the attitude of entitlement by some.

It wasn't you I had in mind when I asked.

You already know I agree.

Me too, but I understand how it was born.

Honestly? I think for some, not all but some, it's simply personal justification for carefully concealed bigotry. In a "there, see, I knew it" kind of way.

For others I just honestly think that so many people get caught up in the hype of Us vs Them thinking that it becomes almost impossible to capitulate even to the smallest degree. That's where you get the 'yes but' or the 'sure, however'. It's like if someone acquiesces on even a small point, it means that they are saying they're wrong about all of it. It's an all or nothing thing.

That's my take on it anyway.

I think much of it is how we receive our information on a topic like this. The media
visits a reserve like the one in this story, and will show footage of the worse of
the worse ('cuz that's good footage), and then that is contrasted with $$$ figures
of money flowing in, in amounts that to the average person are just abstract figures,
& then mentally that is contrasted with the mental comparison to a town of that size
and it's budget and organizational structure...& there you are.

What we hear through the media changes over time, as what is reported is a race
between competing outlets to get some form of infor out first, & then other outlets
parrot the first & add to it (think of the first several hours of that school shooting a
month or so back, or the embassy attack being blamed on some goofy film at first).

On this story, for the first couple weeks, it was reported in multiple places that this
Chief Spence was dieting to get a personal meeting (that she expected to be a week
or two long) with the PM & GG...from about Dec.11th to Christmas-ish...then it was
being reported that she wanted a meeting between FN Leaders with the PM & GG.
Many people believe what they here first, & question the radical changes in how a
story evolves in the news (think of 911).

Yep, media should stick to just reporting news and stick to facts............let someone else do the editorializing! -:)

It adds a new dimension to the old adage that there are three sides to every story; yours, mine and the truth, the fourth being the media who are, of course, in it for their own ends.

It is also the media that helps to perpetuate the all or nothing/us vs them mentality a lot of times as "news" reporting is not about balance anymore, it's about targeting a select audience to maximize advertising dollars. Maybe it always was.

Then add to the media bias...one's own bias, that tends to filter out what doesn't fit one's personal views and/or experiences and "there ya go".............

I've always thought that if you really want to get to the heart of an issue you need to challenge your own view as much as the other guys.

And as usual you would be wrong. But you already knew that, right? Poor eating habits, food alergies and genetic predisposition can all cause obesity. OTH the only thing that causes you to have a fat head is gross stupidity.
