The head of the NRA says the government should put an armed policeman in every school. It the guy really that stupid? Its scary having an idiot running a pro gun association.

The NRA Plan To Guard Schools Is So Stupid That 1/3rd Of All Public Schools Already Use It…

Not to mention it has overwhelming public support.

Nationwide, at least 23,000 schools — about one-third of all public schools — already had armed security on staff as of the most recent data, for the 2009-10 school year, and a number of states and districts that do not use them have begun discussing the idea in recent days.

Americans are war mongers. You can't blame for wanting to indoctrinate their children with their 'kill kill kill' philosophy.

Actually they are not- they didn't get into WW1 until 1917 and they didn't get into WW2 until 1942!

I feel so indoctrinated that I highly recommend they put cops in schools in America. It works here. Has for 40+ years.

Mandate

The Regina Police Service School Resource Officer program combines education, investigation, law enforcement, counseling, crime prevention and community relations to meet the diverse needs of the students, teachers, and staff in the school community.

Vision

The Regina Police Service School Resource Officer Program provides police officers to serve as a daily resource to faculty, students, parents and the community within the school environment. Through meetings with individual students and group presentations, the officers provide information and education on topics relating to safety, crime prevention, the law and the justice system to Elementary and High School students. School Resource Officers assist individual students with law related matters. In some circumstances, they investigate complaints to the police involving schools and student. As much as possible, they try to find alternatives to arresting offenders.

School Resource Officer Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model to instill in students good moral standards, good judgement and discretion, respect for others, and sincere concern for the school community.
  • Establish a trusting channel of communication with the students, parents, and school staff.
  • Reduce youth crime through counsel and teaching about the criminal justice system, and taking a personal interest in the students
  • Function as a resource in legal/social related issues in cooperation with school officials
  • Interprets the law and assists in answering questions or concerns pertaining to law and police matters.
  • Coordinates and monitors established school safety programs and activities
  • Prepares and conducts classroom and large group presentations

School Resource Officer Program Goals

  • To develop positive attitudes toward police officers and to develop positive relationships between youth and the police
  • To provide administrators, counsellors and teachers with a resource in the areas of law and police work in the community
  • To provide information to students on the law, the work of the police, and legal consequences.
  • To provide individual counselling and assistance to students relative to the law.
  • To gather information on youth activities in schools and the community.
  • To reduce crime on school property and in the community, now and in the future.
  • To help to create a safe school environment.

Program Summary

The Regina Police Service School Resource Officer Program utilizes the concept of community policing with officers acting as a resource to faculty, students, parents and community within a school environment. An officer is assigned to each Regina High School with responsibility for a number of elementary schools. Each School Resource Officer has an office within his/her high school(s) and interacts with students, teachers, school staff and parents on a daily basis. School Resource Officers provide education on safety, substance abuse, life skills and the justice system to Elementary and High School students. School Resource Officers also investigate complaints to police involving schools. In some cases mediation brings about a successful resolution to the complaint; in other cases a criminal charge may result. There are ten School Resource Officers assigned to Regina’s high schools and elementary schools.

So you haven't watched the news since 1949?

Yep, they've been involved in a few skirmishes, not sure just what Vietnam proved! But hey, outside of the Al Qaeda, how many times has the U.S. been invaded? Also their proximity, has probably saved Canada's bacon on a few occasions. You don't want to bad mouth the second greatest country on earth!

I'll bad mouth the worst and the greatest as I see fit but thanks for your concern.
I was referring to not how the USA has been invaded or saved us from the same non invasions but how they are creating a war like situation within their boarders, the enemy being themselves.

I've travelled fairly extensively through the western U.S. probably 30-40 times over the past 35 years and never once saw a war being created. -:)

LOL

Reality:

The murder rate in the "war zone" of the USA is 4.2 per 100,000.

The world average is 6.9 per 100,000.

Some war zone!!!

One of the safer places in the world to live, actually....

There are always people, Colpy who will eat up just whatever they are "fed" without bothering to observe for themselves.

I've been to some bad parts of Chicago and some bad parts of Toronto. Colpy has a point regarding numbers, even if some don't want to accept it.

Yep, I hear a hell of lot more bad sh*t happening in Toronto than Chicago, even though Chicago is about 3 times the size!

Yes of course, but their culture is to shoot their way out of a problem. An insane person goes ballistic so they want to arm more people to solve the problem.
They are not fostering a safe society with choices like that.

Overall, the homicide rate was 1.73 per 100,000 population in 2011, seven per cent higher than in 2010, Statistics Canada said.

This suggests there are safer places just beyond a magic unseen line on a map. For some strange reason. Maybe it's the lack of war mongering here? I guess that couldn't be it, right? Must be that more guns make you safer.

The only point colpy has, is the one on top of his head. Check the "numbers" for Canada. I believe eh1 has already fed them to Colpy. War mongering state fits the americans very well.
