Should The GOP Surrender To Obama On Tax Policy?

Whether we like it or not, there was a time that the only debt facilities available to the general public were home mortgages... Now, you can finance the purchase of an iPhone if you need to... Hell, people would save for a long time in order just to purchase a car, now anyone can go out with a few hundred dollars in their jeans and (with proof of income) finance a new vehicle.

That said, this is also one of the reasons that costs have escalated.

Sometimes I am not so sure that all this easy credit has been a good thing. Mostly because if a financial knowledge test was given the majority of the population would fail.

There is definitely a huge downside to having easy access to credit. In fact, it's fair to say that the real estate melt down and Greece would either not have happened at all or it would have been vastly less severe

Well in the past the Democrats claimed to be willing to make spending cuts to attack the deficit/debt as long as the GOP was willing to accept tax hikes. The GOP has a chance to see if the Dems were bluffing or not.

As I said... we'll see.

Honestly at this point they need both but the Tea Party in particular seems to believe the rhetoric that Americans pay too many taxes already and are more highly taxed than any of their democratic compatriots (which they are not).

The middle class is taxed too much. When government waste and fraud is abundant... we are paying too much in taxes.

When we have this...

Original Obamaphone Lady: Obama Voter Says Vote for Obama because he gives a free Phone - YouTube

...we're paying too much in taxes.

Yup...paid for by people who work. With this garbage going on it is no wonder why people don't want to pay more.

I wonder if the Dems also sprung for a service plan on the phone.

Actually, wouldn't it be sweet justice of the Dems made a large volume deal with a cell company to get all the phones for free, but the recipient had to pay (personally) for an outrageous package?

(I know - my condescending side is showing)

The question being asked should be, "What is right for America. Both short and long term? " Isn't that the task of our elected officials?

I sure do get a kick out of everyone that leans on the notion of 'tax cuts to the rich' as if as if paying 48% in combined income tax is a huge savings from paying 50% previously.... In the end, it's still a sh*tty deal that leverages one tiny % of the population to pay through the nose for political promises for the 50+% of the pop that pays no fed income taxes at all.

... And gopher, before you point at guys like Buffet that paid less taxes than his secretary - ask if the secretary donated a few billion to charity as an offset against their income. Despite the various loopholes and capital gains bennies, offsetting donations against income is the biggest 'trick/loophole' that is used to give to a charitable org rather than gvt.

I'm guessing that the secretary probably didn't kick 10 figures into their favorite charity

The fifty per cent who don't pay taxes include children, elderly and the sick. It also includes people in jails and mental institutions. These "problems" would be solved by forcing children and the elderly to work, while closing hospitals, mental institutions and jails.

Its time for Republicans to suck it up and move on. They lost the election. The majority voted to raise taxes on the wealthy and protect medicare.

Wrong... the stats are based on the IRS records of all those that file a return. How many kids do you know of file tax returns.

Well, I guess the good Captain is now convinced Buffet paid just a little more in taxes than he initially thought ....

I was going by the commonly held misconception that many hold as fact.

Say, you ought to look into how much he contributed directly to charities as a tax write-off?.. You could eliminate that egregious loop-hole and have Buffet pay directly to the IRS.

.. Sure, the charities wouldn't have the money, but at least that fat-cat paid his 'fair share'... Too bad for the charitable orgs and the people that they help though...

Captain,

Well you do raise a point that I have mentioned on this forum before: far too many people blindly accept the lies made by the Fox network, Breitbart, Limbaugh, and others of the delusional right wing with the controlled news media.

But once you actually check out the FACTS these lies are easily refuted. I have done that enough times on this forum and will continue to do so. There just isn't a word of truth in anything stated by the far right.

What partisanship? Where do you the implication that any one party has a monopoly on truth?

gopher opined...

I hope that this clears it up

That doesn't answer the question - partisanship deals with having party affiliation. You still haven't shown where my comment indicates any such affiliation.
