There is no doubt that religion is a large part of his denial. That plus the fact that the Alliance Church is praying for an early end and for the Rapture to come. I remember the story told by one lapsed member of New Year`s Eve at the turn of the century. His sister refused to go out with her friends because she had to stay at home to be with her family if the Rapture came.

But it is not only denial. It is not clear whether he does deny totally. It is that he would not care about climate change because of those beliefs.

The reprehensible part of that Party is that there are many who are well aware of the looming catastrophe but put their political futures, futures that they have linked to Harper, ahead of the human race.

When I read a well thought out and reasoned post like this, I have to wonder: what drugs are you on?

I was part of the evangelical movement in my teens, I also think that at least part of the motivation of the far right in North America is to bring about the Rapture so many have been conditioned to believe is inevitable.

Things I DON"T believe anymore:
- The bible is the literal word of god
- Christ was a living man
- A horn is going to blast and superhuman beings are going to come down from the clouds and scoop up the righteous and burn the rest of us.
- God gave us the world to use as we please.

Things I do believe:
- Evolution is real and the geological record is full of extinction events some that came close to wiping out all life on the planet, we should be very careful in upsetting the natural balance.
- The biosphere is a hugely complex community that in combination with physical cycles like the carbon and hydrological make life possible on the planet. It's not god looking out for us, it's the natural laws of the Universe acting to create the amazing biological diversity which we're just a small part of.
- That by destroying the environment we're a part of we're destroying ourselves.

So while I celebrate peoples rights to believe what they like, I'm completely opposed to anyone believing they have the right to impose those beliefs on me...especially when in doing so they could be destroying the foundations that make life possible for all of us.

The local pollution issue alone should require much greater oversight and regulation with tar sands development, the huge water use and massive amounts of CO2 emitted should require an immediate moratorium on new projects there and a plan to phase out the entire project as well as coal use in the next two decades. We need a leader with some real moral character, not someone who's stuck centuries in the past trying to hold on to beliefs that bring comfort but no real safety.

To bad the oilsands are keeping the Canadian economy alive,I dont think anyone would risk their political career by shutting them down and sending all the Newfs,Caper,New Brunswickers etc home and tell them sorry,no job for you!

As opposed to your extremely impressive heckling?
You know what's funny. I actually believe in AGW. I'm not thoroughly convinced on all the drivers. But I believe we are negatively impacting the environment, across the board. Not just in climate.

But there's something I recognize, that you and the other half wit don't. The world still has to function.

Abrupt actions like the nonsense you convey, are detrimental to peoples lives, and the economy, acutely. The nonsense you push, would cause riots, mass starvation and wars.

Now I'm just as Ok with anarchy as I am with living without gas. I'm well armed and trained in Guerrilla warfare. But that's me. That isn't everybody.

Use your head, lets ask Ottawa to try the German approach and see what happens. If that doesn't go well, we can go back to the board.

Your use of hyperbole and BS, is counterproductive. People like you drive the sane away from the issue. In fact, people like you and Cabbagefarts, make me want to switch sides, you're both an embarrassment to the cause.

I doesn't take much effort to come across as a complete dick, why not reach a little higher?
Well you two have the dick part down good. I'm looking forward to seeing you two try at raising the bar.

It would be nice if you guys could take a hint.

As has been pointed out to you many times, the Oil Sands is not what is keeping the economy alive. Before they killed manufacturing in Ontario, thousands of Newfoundlanders came to Ontario for productive work.

And I can tell you from certain knowledge that many of those in the Oil Patch do not want to be there. They want useful employment.

So if we manage to melt all the ice on the globe, which is mostly near the
poles and isostatic rebound raises the elevation of Antarctica and
Greenland:
How many years will it take to melt the 3000+m of Greenland ice?

Ask any Newfy in Fort Mac.Hows it going?

They allmost allways reply"livin the dream me b'ye,livin the dream.

I'm not kidding

It is bad enough that the easterners have to travel thousands of miles from home and family just to get a job,it's a tough life they live and I know because I also travel but at least I can get home in a half a day.

Shutting down the oilsands and telling them they dont have jobs anymore would probably result in a few riots.
