Wow... you are so fu cking dense sometimes. IF THERE IS NO DEMAND FOR A PARTICULAR TYPE OF WORK, DON'T GO TO SCHOOL FOR IT. FIND OUT WHAT IS IN DEMAND AND GET EDUCATED FOR THAT. PRESTO, NO PROBLEM GETTING A JOB.

Also, if what you have been doing for the last ten years suddenly takes a shyte, RE-EDUCATE/TRAIN yourself and move on.

Oh sh*t and here am I, the highest qualified Encyclopedia and Fuller brush salesman in the country!:lol:

No, STUPID people do that. Intelligent people look at the market, research the future potential, and then make a decision based on what they found out.

No amount of research into the market would've prepared anyone for 2008.

They go primarily because they believe they are skilled in that field.
What they believe, and what the reality is, is obvious.

They aren't qualified.

And the tragedy is that those who are especially qualified still don't get jobs because they are given to less qualified seniors.
LOL, it's long been shown that people over 40, have greater difficulty getting long term employment in career fields. In favour of young person, that will be in the position longer.

It's a common practice.

Not really.
Yes really. Hence all the lame justification, and eyes to the gov't for a job, instead of just getting to work.

I may love to weld, but I'm certainly not doing the welding prefer to do. I'm well over qualified for the welding I'm doing today. But I do it because it pays the bills. While I rebuild a business that will get me back to welding what I want to weld, what I love to weld.

My advice for you entitle underemployed youngin's, go get your PSW. It's a booming market with starting wages around $20/hr.

After I pay taxes and cover consumables, you'll make more than me.

No amount of research into the market would've prepared anyone for 2008.
I disagree.

My parents and my modest portfolio survived nearly unscathed.

I should have listened to my mother though, and not borrowed so heavily to expand so fast. I would have weathered the storm had I listened.

And if you want to break it down to employment, anything to do with caring for boomers, is a money maker.

Disagree.

There are some positions that people are specially qualified for. They cannot get these positions due to market conditions that they have to wait out for until the government makes the right investment to get things moving again. Of course they can find another job in the mean time, but if qualified people don't ever have the opportunity to get the best fit for them, it's actually a drag on the economy we all suffer because of it.

You can say what you want about the American Dream and how a free market is inherently fair or some other such naivety, but the truth is that the government will always be pushing and pulling levers to move the economy in a particular direction.
When I graduated university Bre-X happened, I had zero opps in what I wanted to do but there were in opps in what I didn't want to do. Guess what I did? Guess who saw that I was willing to take the knocks when what I wanted to do came open? Employers.

Do you know what a "hard nose" is?

People don't go to school based entirely on opportunity. They go primarily because they believe they are skilled in that field.

You don't normally go to school because you are skilled................you go to school to get skilled. You may go to school because you have an aptitude!

There are oodles of ways to track hiring trends and trend longevity before choosing a career.

Someone that just gets to gettin' what needs to be done, done!

But more importantly, voted least likely to feel entitled by his graduating class, at the school of hard knocks.

Sadly we have more brown nose than hard nose in this government.

We're not talking about government at this time, and the quote from Petros was definitely not referring to government. Try to keep up.

If you want to make money in todays world of laziness, sell something to to the lazy.

I haven't seen instant frozen toast in the supermarket yet.

Go for it Flossy. Be the frozen toast king.

You really have no clue, Bear. It is the Helsinki Agreement. The Helsinki Agreement was what was signed by a large number of nations to incorporate the Accords, Declaration and the Final Act.

And the self determination of peoples is not erga omnes (the correct term, not ergas omnes) so throwing a bit of Latin you got from Wiki into your 'argument' does not help you. Erga omnes can be involved where a people claims the right because of its oppression, but, in general, it is the obligation of a state to its citizens.

Everything I wrote about self determination stands and you should leave it there.

What is the saying about digging oneself into a hole?

Apart from that, I will not continue this with you. Until you can learn the rudiments of civility I have no interest in what you say.

Captain,

I never stated they were 'asking' for welfare handouts, my comment was founded on the auspices of 'entitlement'.

BOOMer was the one who actually mentioned "social programs and a free ride" and you chimed in with the term "entitlements" which are the same thing. Maybe in Canada they mean something else but here they are synonymous.

In any case, contrary to what you or anyone thinks or wants to think, NOBODY is demanding welfare handouts except for corporate welfare queens.
