Making money from rocks is all about ratios. X amount of kW in per tonne to get X amount of product out per tonne. It's a fine line for some minerals.
Strip ratio also, the price will dictate if you can mine at a 7 to 1 or a 13 to one ratio and still make your 10% for the shareholders.

It's a mine same formula still applies. I wonder if some of the over zealous realize that the least amount of energy used to make that ratio means more profit? Efficiency is king.

I'm waiting for it to click in that copper mining, smelting and useage is far far far worse than oil ever will be be. Then what will greens do? Sends tweetsa and emails around the global via copper wiring or will they use eco-friendly smoke signals?
I find that hard to believe when the burning of oil emits 80% of the carbon content.

Those who complain about the strip mining aspect obviously havne't been to Labrador City.
As a matter of interest, I was at Labrador City and Wabush long before there was a Labrador City. Just visited the City area but worked at Wabush.

Wouldn't it depend on the oil product as to what percentage of the carbon is released?

Im also assuming you are talking about burning it and the carbon being released into the air.

It needs no elaboration. I gave the figure for the burning of oil. We could prattle on about all the breakdowns but that only serves to obscure the point that the total emissions from oil extraction and use are far more than from various ores, The degree of carbon content governs.

You stated burning oil only, not extraction. So you are saying that there is more carbon release when burning oil then there is for... say..... coal?

I would have to suggest that burning oil emits 100% of the carbon content, since it isn't captured and stored in the engine.
Otherwise, where does it go?

I don't know what point he's trying to make.
