Every time the conversation widens to discuss the whole picture, you do your damnedest to narrow it back down again.

That's an unscientific thing to say. No theory will ever be 100% complete. Imagine all the needless deaths from disease if we waited for 100% certainty before enacting policies to reduce death and suffering. Only ideologues deal with issues in terms of absolute certainty.
Until there is more the theory is lacking enough to convince me that monetary policies are the answer. I have nothing against policy in aspects of the knowns. If we know sulfer is creating an issue then I'm for reductions of sulfer but be damed if I'm going to pay for it.

I did some reading after you pointed out the German model.
I was impressed, but what we have being proposed here is not quite what they've done there.
They had preceding policies and major policy shifts, that made their advances and protected their standard of living. That have just not been addressed in North American politics.

Germany represents a real world example, a model that could be copied in part or in whole depending on the similarity of the society that wishes to address the issue. There are roof-tops across Canada that are not capturing electricty or heat. That's a low-hanging fruit that is easy to address. As to our earlier conversation, incentives could make it more attractive.

A good start, which we have a small helping hand from the Feds is, rebates on solar power panels.
But in more dense urban and suburban areas, town by-laws are prohibitive.

Contrary to durpetey, the feed-in tariffs for renewables in Germany amount to $0.046 cents a kWh, which is only 12.6% of the current electric rate. Hardly the 600% mark-up. Also, since Germany embarked on their alternative energy policies, the cost of solar pV has come down by 50%.

It's also restricting the proponents from putting their money where their mouth is. If those who want it can't afford then this issue needs to be addressed.
I've done a lot of work in structural over the years, what building codes would you be thinking of?
I looked into solar panels, even with the financial initiatives, I couldn't afford it.

Ya, I was told I could get plans on line to make my own solar panels. Quite frankly, I'm great with the metal work to hold them up. Not so much with the tech needed to build the actual panel and collection system.
