Do I understand correctly that if water isn't drinkable, it's okay to ruin it further?

Mind you, this comes from someone who doesn't believe you can run refined products through a pipeline, so take it with a grain of salt. Or many grains of nitrate.

Why would it be ruined further?

Well people are drinking from it and no, it's not okay to risk contaminating it.
Are they, or do they rely on RO like all the others who have ****ty water?

Is the use of nirtrates being reduced or would that be an economy killer for Nebraska?

With or without RO treatment for nitrates? Are there cries for reductions in nitrate use by the people who are contaminating their own water?

Pipe for XL

MADE IN CANADA!

That explains the holdup.

I don't understand why reading comprehension is so difficult for you.

The second largest ground-water use, 418 million gallons per day (Mgal/day), is for domestic drinking water. Almost 2 million people rely on the High Plains aquifer for their drinking water. Surface water is used for drinking water primarily in the larger cities near the periphery of the High Plains aquifer (Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Lubbock, Odessa, and Amarillo, Texas).

What depth is the pipe and what depth is the water drawn from? Keep in mind you are getting your info from the mainstream mediocre.

That explains the holdup.
For those who have never seen one, this is what pollutant belching refineries and upgraders look like while running. Just look at the black skies!

Somewhere I saw a map with about 10 existing pipelines through the self same aquifer. I guess the 40 year old ones can't leak but a new one made with Canadian pipe will.

Thanks, but no thanks.

In 1991, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) began implementing a full-scale National Water-Quality Assessment Program to provide consistent and scientifically sound information for managing the Nation's water resources. The goals of the NAWQA Program are to (1) describe current water-quality conditions for a large part of the Nation's freshwater streams and aquifers, (2) describe how water quality is changing over time, and (3) improve our understanding of the primary natural and human factors affecting water quality.

Actually, one of ours just leaked 2 years ago in Minnesota.

The leak, Hovorka said, was first discovered and reported by local fire fighters. Enbridge Energy reportedly did not know of the leak until the fire crews called and notified them.

XL and a dozen others cross the South Sask River and oodles of aquafers. In fact Keystone runs righ through Regina. No leaks. How old was the line that leaked? Older than me? I don't leak.

How did all the other regions' environment agencies manage to give it a passing grade for their aquafiers and rivers? They were bought out by "big oil"?

You ramble on and on and on about how technology will save the planet from the CO2 invasion yet you feel pipeline technology hasn't changed one iota?

Oooooookay. I guess technology sucks and can't be relied on to stop the CO2 invasion either.

Technology is going backwards these days. XL will be made from hollowed out logs (from the rainforest) for pipe.

Crap? You spew crap about technology saving three planet? You'd best change your ways young man.

No, technology will not "save the planet". Nor does the planet need saving right now.

So what's the problem?

You'll never get a direct answer on this. In fact, it's a near impossibility especially when someone is traffiking in theoretical worst-case-scenarios as the norm and eco-propaganda.

All in all, I'm more interested in hearing why Flossy hasn't commented on Buffets support of the eevviillll oil and gas industry via his positive support for KXL

I, like Buffet, have no problem with a pipeline that won't risk contaminating drinking water.

Ontario
It would be amusing if it were not so tragic to see the arguments put forth to persuade Canadians that the pipeline is a boon to Canada and the non oil provinces.

Redford made the argument that it would create 63,000 jobs for Ontario over the next 25 years. Hooraaay.

Ontario has already lost nearly five times that number - more than half caused by existing oil production, in a decade. It will lose several times the 63,000 because of increased production from the Oil Sands.

Why would it risk drinking water that needs to be RO treated because it's non-potable as it stands? Another hypothetical you haven't full researched?

Pipelines already running through Nebraska

Why has ON lost those jobs? Because the west is producing oil?
