Well, Alberts is 6'5" and about 240 lbs.

JLM read the roster. Alberts is only about five pounds or so heavier than Booth. In any case, when a ref calls five
penalties on one player, it must mean that all the opposing players are perfect, good, little, boys and there was nothing
to call on them.

I went snooping thru the roster, and was surprised to find malhotra weighing in at 220, he sure doesn't
look that heavy.
I know that the roster lists often add an inch or so to players (who are shorter) to make them seem taller, but not
usually weight.

thats right. that penalty given to daniel sedin in the overtime was a phantom, tanguay drew that himself,
good strategy, and give him kudos for doing it, fooled the ref, cause daniel did nothing to him.

however thats the way it goes, they had their chances in OT, just didn't happen, so back home now,
and play phoenix I think.

I also think that both of the penalties given alberts for boarding were 'wrong calls', both of those players
were falling before he checked them, he almost missed the second completely, and there is absolutely no
time for him to cancel the hits that late.

Too right, talloola.........the commentators covering the game said much the same thing about both the Sedin penalty and the Albert's penalties.

Ah well, they came away with a point and that helps in the standings. Thought they had a pretty solid road trip, all in all.

Preview Coyotes look to climb the standings in VancouverDavis Harper - NHL.com Staff Writer

COYOTES (27-21-8) at CANUCKS (34-15-6)

TV: FS-A PLUS (HD), SNET-P (HD)

Last 10: Phoenix 6-3-1; Vancouver 6-1-3

Season Series: This is the second of four season meetings. In the first, Vancouver came to the desert on Nov. 25 and left with a 5-0 victory. Last season, Phoenix won both meetings in Vancouver.

Big Story: Phoenix's will put its season-high, five-game winning streak -- and newfound playoff position -- on the line Monday at Rogers Arena. With wins against conference giants like Detroit, San Jose and on Saturday night, Chicago -- the Coyotes moved into eighth place with 62 points. With wins in six of their last eight, Vancouver returns home for a three-game stand looking to gain on leaders Detroit.

Team Scope:

Coyotes: As teams like Minnesota, Colorado and Dallas have seen their fortunes fade, the Coyotes have pounced, leapfrogging those three teams and Calgary to move into eighth position in a span of two weeks. While Phoenix has used an uptick in scoring to turn it around -- the Yotes are averaging 3.4 goals a game over the streak -- goalie Mike Smith has been a rock between the pipes. Over the last four games, he has stopped 119 of 122 shots, and has been in net for all five wins. He made 38 saves for his third shutout of the season against Chicago on Saturday.

"In the last two, three weeks, the guys in front of me have found ways to tie up sticks and let me see the puck," Smith said.

Canucks: Vancouver fell 3-2 in a shootout to Calgary Saturday, its only defeat on a four-game road trip. Goals from Cody Hodgson and David Booth erased a two-goal deficit, but Jarome Iginla eventually bagged the shootout-winner for the Flames. Still, Vancouver is on a nine-game points streak (6-0-3) and, heading into Sunday's games, is within two points of conference-leading Detroit.

"It's always nice to get that many points, but it stings a little bit with that last one," Burrows said. "We'll take that and get ready for the homestand."

Who’s Hot: Phoenix veteran and team scoring leader Ray Whitney has an eight-game points streak, with 2 goals and 10 assists over that stretch. … Booth has 4 goals and 4 assists in his last nine games, and also scored in the 5-0 drubbing of Phoenix earlier this season.

Injury Report: David Schlemko went on injured reserve with a foot injury on Jan. 8 and will miss the remainder of the season. … Vancouver's Dale Weise is doubtful for Monday's game with a lacerated foot. Chris Higgins is on injured reserve with an illness, and Andrew Ebbett is out indefinitely with collarbone surgery.

Stat Pack: Roberto Luongo has been nearly as sharp as Smith, with a 4-0-2 record and 2.35 goals-against average since Jan. 21. Against Phoenix, he has been even stingier, with a 1.50 GAA over his last six starts. He will need to be in top form early against the Coyotes, which has scored within the first eight minutes in each of their last four games. Radim Vrbata and Boyd Gordon gave Phoenix a 2-0 edge against Chicago just 5:58 into Saturday’s contest.

Puck Drop: "We have to put a string together, and we hadn't had a sustained winning streak all year. A sustained winning streak can get you right back to where you want to be. These five games have obviously been a great boost to us. We're playing better as a group. We're doing things that make you win." -- Phoenix coach Dave Tippett after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Chicago.

canucks will have to bring their A game tonight, as phoenix is on a roll, and now that they are in
8th place, that will be incentive to spur them on, they are a very good team, and the fight for
a playoff spot is so tight that none of those teams in that group can afford to lose much at all.
Their goalie, smith has been playing stellar of late, so the team at this point is very solid and
ready to stay inside that playoff number.

yeah booth had a good game, its good to see, as he has been fighting the puck lately, but tonight
he had his chances and could have had a second goal, just didn't happen, but did in the shoot out.

luongo looked sad on coyotes goal, so I was glad to see him stop that last shoot out shot, he needed
to do that.

Yeah, shootouts aren't his strong suit, my heart was in my mouth a couple of times.

That's the boys!

They sure know how to make a game interesting, don't they? I thought they were practicing defense in the first period. Then in the second, I figured they were testing the 'Desert Dogs', by the third I figured they wanted to spend a bit more time on the ice or as David Booth commented after the game - us fans are getting our 'money's worth' with all these OT and shoot-out games.

They do that, don't they, though they didn't really look too over-exercised tonight.

I'm impressed with David Booth!
Me too, he's a real cutey and he also scores some sexy goals.

In spite of a couple of misses in the shoot-out and in addition to some nice saves too, Lu is looking pretty darn good lately. I think it was in the Calgary game where he made a really cool glove save out of the net - a real 'kodak' moment.

Do feel a bit sorry for Bitz, he must have felt like a real dork but he kept playing good hockey and every one is allowed a mistake or two.

yes he did make a mistake, but the shot was very very stoppable, and it wasn't stopped.

the whole game was a defensive battle, coyotes are masters at that game, and for both teams there
wasn't any room at all out there, our goal came on a great offensive play that not very many players
can make, but booth can, and their goal came on an unforced error by canucks.

good shoot out though, ended the right way, good 2 points.

Yeah, Luongo sucked on the reg time goal. The Coyote point hurt Calgary's chances for the playoffs. Nice goal by Booth. Too many defensive plodders on the Coyotes, its bad for the game.

They should have 4 on 4 for 60 minutes, then 3 on 3 for the OT. The ice is so crowded now. Once the Nucks win the Cup, I won't be watching NHL hockey any more. I'll try to get the KHL from Russia on satellite. Or Swedish hockey.

you'll get bored in no time watching either one of those leagues, ice far too big, game too slow, and
not enough body contact, just ask naslund what he would rather play, he said the north american game
is the one he would choose, more exciting, much faster and more body contact.

Not many of our games are total defensive battles like this one was, most games
are very fast, lots of scoring chances, and a little more open, although defense
is always there, as it should be.
The league is very fast now, faster than it has ever been, and actually even
a defensive war like this game was, it was still very fast, no plodders, coyotes
just don't have any offensive stars, but they are not slow.

Or maybe I'll watch more women's soccer/rugby/curling/basketball. I like the big ice. On 4 on 4, the contact is minimized, and you get to see, shocke and horro, more hockey like stickhandling. It's looking a little odd to me. We're just too caught up in the spectable these days. The Oilers in the '80s and Habs in the '70s were much better to watch.

Hockey is becoming like indoor soccer, everything is like a pinball bouncing around and no one has any room to move.

Liked the fact that both teams wanted to play hockey more than did spending time in the penalty box.

David Booth is the new Canuck phenom.

Gotta say I do enjoy the 4 on 4 too, DTM. I think you get to see more of those fine, soft finessed shots that the Canucks can make so well when they are on their game. I love beautiful passes, they are like a work of art and I think you get to see that more when it is 4 on 4. But when it happens 5 on 5, it can happen so fast I have to watch the replay to catch it all. Don't think I would like to see the game go that way though.

Passing is a fading art now. Finesse has less and less of a place in the game. In a restricted area, muscles rule. Players keep getting bigger/faster and bump into each other more so power gains ascendency. See concussions and that Crosby guy.

The NHLPA would never support 4 on 4 as they would lose jobs, two per team as four lines of four means a roster of 16, which would replace 12 forwards and 6 defencemen for a roster of 18 now. But fans would win.

No, they would not support 4 on 4 for just the reason you state, and also the league did try to get
staged fighting out of the game, and the NHLPA blocked it.

I guess i'm a bit different because I love great defense as well as good offense, and tonights game is
not an example of how the games are played these days.

I watched san jose play washington, not a defensive game at all.

I watched detroit play phoenix a few nights ago, a great game, as phoenix matched them play for play,
and both teams are great defensive teams, but the game was so fast, with scoring chances as well, and
great goalkeeping, it was very entertaining.

I love watching edmonton play, but only when their defense is playing well, then it balances the great
young offensive players they have, then they can give teams a good game.

I don't like offensive games, I like good balance, but tonight the defense was overpowering the offense.

Nashville is playing a very entertaining brand of hockey this season, very fast skating.

I would agree with you if games were slow like they were before lockout, boring defensive games, with
too many whistles because players are holding players against the boards to get a whistle.

Too many stoppages.

There you are, was hoping to see what you had to say. Yeah, that puck was stoppable for sure. Still, I do think Lu is doing pretty good lately, don't you?

booth had a very good game tonight, but I don't think he has played well of late, so I hope that we
see more play like we saw tonight.
he is a great skater, not just fast, but strong as well.

I also saw some great play from cody hodgson, he is so very smart, so strong on his legs, and plays
a great defensive game as well as offensive.

the team didn't have any room tonight, but neither did phoenix, so it was just 'who' made the most
mistakes, or who had the best scoring chances off of the rush, like booth's goal.

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks announced a ruling today by the NHL Officiating Department after a review of the penalties assessed to Maxim Lapierre at 19:32 of the third period on February 9, 2012. The Hockey Operations Department has reviewed the incident and rescinds the penalty assessed and recorded in the stick related category of game misconducts.

Lapierre was charged with spearing in that frenzy the other day, with a group of players.
Canucks in Minnesota, I think it was the Clutterbuck brat that got things started in that pushing
and shoving match.

Shootouts have been very kind to the Colorado Avalanche all season, except earlier this month when they hosted Vancouver.

The Canucks are getting plenty of practice in tiebreakers, but they hope they won't need one Wednesday night as they look to take at least one point from the Avalanche for the 15th consecutive meeting.

Colorado (28-25-4) had won all seven of its shootouts this season and 10 straight overall until losing its most recent one Feb. 4, when Vancouver's Mason Raymond scored the lone shootout goal in a 3-2 win. Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa had tied the game with 35 seconds left in regulation.

That was one of five shootouts in Vancouver's last six games. The Canucks (35-15-6) have won five of eight shootouts during a 9-1-3 stretch, which has helped them build a hefty Northwest Division lead.

"We're comfortable in those games," Bieksa said Monday after a 2-1 shootout win over Phoenix. "In the shootout we've been getting better results at least."

Vancouver scored four times in six rounds in Monday's tiebreaker - including one from David Booth, who also scored in regulation. Booth has five goals and four assists in 11 games since returning from a knee injury.

He credited linemate Ryan Kesler, who has scored six times in his last nine contests and had the deciding shootout goal Monday.

"He's seeing the ice really well right now and that really helps me out when he can move the puck and just put it in good areas," Booth said.

Kesler, Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin each has seven goals during Vancouver's extended run of dominance over Colorado - a 12-0-2 stretch dating back to Nov. 1, 2009. Henrik Sedin also has 12 assists during that span, including one on each of his brother's three goals during a 6-0 win Dec. 6 in the Avs' most recent visit to Vancouver.

Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider both played in that game due to a Luongo injury. It's unclear who will be in net Wednesday, but Schneider has stopped 104 of 107 shots while going 3-0-0 in four appearances versus Colorado since the start of last season.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere could be back in the crease for the Avs after Semyon Varlamov suffered his fourth straight defeat Saturday in a 3-2 overtime loss at St. Louis. Giguere played earlier this month against Vancouver and has won both of his starts since, making 39 saves in Friday's 4-3 overtime victory over Carolina.

Colorado coach Joe Sacco seemed satisfied despite losing to the red-hot Blues, especially considering the game-winning goal went in off the elbow of a St. Louis skater. The Avs picked up a point for the fourth straight game.

"I like where we are at right now," Sacco said. "We had an opportunity to block that last shot and we didn't. It takes a funny bounce and it goes in."

The Avs may be looking to Paul Stastny during their three-game swing through Canada. Stastny has five multipoint games in his last 15, with Colorado winning all five - and going 0-7-3 otherwise.

The team has scored two or fewer goals 11 times in that stretch.

Offensive help could be on the way soon. Center Matt Duchene practiced Monday - without contact - for the first time since suffering a knee injury Dec. 29. He'll join the team on this trip, although it remains unclear when he'll return.

"He looks good out there," Stastny told the Avs' official website. "He brings life to this team."

chris higgins will play tonight, after dealing with a reaction to anti biotics for
the staph infection, he lost about 12 lbs during that time, so I wouldn't expect
him to be at his best right away, but its good to have him back, and hopefully
it will be clear sailing for him all the way now, without any more interference
from medication or staph problems.
He started this season just great, scored quite a few goals then, and he needs
to have time now to get back to that high quality play.
