Your're wrong about tanev, he played all thru last seasons playoffs, he is a very good player, although
very young, and it is my thoughts that he will be brought up for playoffs again this season.
He is much more than a replacement for injuries, but his youth and inexperience is why they kept
him in chicago this year, he is one of the top defencemen in that league, getting experience and
lots of games.
Yes I was thinking about Tanev last night he certainly has something to add to the team-in time.

The team kept Hodgson in the AHL last year for much the same reason and look what he's doing now.

can you imagine how good hodgson would be if he were a great skater, that is his only weakness, but
I know it won't hold him down too much, but with wheels he would be so much better.

He does struggle at times as he did last night against chicago, but when given a chance to score
he is awsome.

While much has been made about the Detroit Red Wings' home efforts, they're starting to show significant improvement on the road.

They figure to get all they can handle in Thursday night's visit to Vancouver.

Seeking a fourth road win in five games, the Red Wings square off against the Canucks in a matchup between two of the Western Conference's top teams.

In the midst of a 17-game winning streak on its own ice, Detroit (34-16-1) has picked up the pace as the visiting team. After a lackluster start in opposing arenas, the Red Wings have taken three of four on the road to improve to 14-14-0.

Keeping things going, however, likely won't be easy. Sitting atop the West, Detroit is three points ahead of second-place Vancouver (31-15-4), which holds a big lead in the Northwest Division.

While the Canucks took the last meeting 4-2 on Dec. 21, they know they'll surely have their hands full in this one.

"They have world-class players on that side, they're very well coached," goaltender Roberto Luongo said. "They know what it takes to win hockey games and they're very disciplined. If we wanna have a chance to win, we gotta play our game plan to a 'T' and make sure we don't give those guys any free passes."

With the last matchup proving to be a very physical affair, Luongo is expecting more of the same Thursday.

"It's two of the best teams in the league going at it," he said. "Whenever there's that type of match involved, there's always going to be a lot of intensity and playoff atmosphere. Those are the fun games to be playing in."

Vancouver carries plenty of momentum into Thursday's showdown after defeating Chicago 3-2 in overtime Tuesday for its third win a row. Cody Hodgson scored his third goal in as many games before Daniel Sedin tallied his team-leading 22nd in OT.

"It's huge," goalie Cory Schneider told the Canucks' official website. "There's so many good teams in the West and we're all scrambling at the top here so anytime you can gain a point on anybody it's important."

While Schneider turned away 37 shots in improving to 9-1-0 over his last 10 games, Luongo is likely to be back in goal. Luongo is 2-0-1 with a 1.30 goals-against average in his last three games versus the Red Wings.

After suffering a 7-2 loss at Montreal prior to the All-Star break, Detroit kicked off a four-game trip with its eighth win in nine games, 3-1 over Calgary on Tuesday. Center Cory Emmerton gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead in the first period before Jiri Hudler and Drew Miller scored in the third.

"Just getting off to a good start in this game and on this trip, too, playing better defensively in that first period, I thought we came out with a good push," captain Nicklas Lidstrom told the team's official website.

"This is the kind of win that we want to try and get, especially on the road, grinding it out, tied going into the third period and waiting on opportunities and capitalizing on them, too."

After surrendering four goals on 12 shots before getting pulled versus the Canadiens, Jimmy Howard bounced back to make 28 saves Tuesday in posting his NHL-best 31st win.

Howard has gone 2-3-0 with a 3.51 GAA in five career starts at Vancouver. He made 25 saves in a 2-0 win over the Canucks at home Oct. 13.

vineault explained clearly why schneider played last night.

He knew luongo was going to florida to spend the week with family.
He spoke to schneider before the break, and suggested to him that he stay ready to play, as he
will be playing the next game.
He explained that schneider has no family of his own 'yet', not as much obligations during the break.
He also explained that this game would give schneider a chance to play in a high intensity game against
a top team, which he needs to further his career and keep him ready for such games.

Your're wrong about tanev, he played all thru last seasons playoffs, he is a very good player, although

He is much more than a replacement for injuries, but his youth and inexperience is why they kept
him in chicago this year, he is one of the top defencemen in that league, getting experience and
lots of games.

If they traded schneider they would seriously weaken the team, then they would have to bring eddie
lack up from chicago, and they would 'again' have an inexperienced goalie to help out luongo, no
improvement on last season going into playoffs.
Luongo seriously choked in boston in the playoffs, and although he has played
very well recently, who's to say he won't choke again in playoffs, canucks
must be ready for anything with him, he could be brilliant or he could bomb.

If they do trade schneider, they better get a top player who would make it worthwhile, don't think that will
happen, but 'never say never' I guess.

Right, there's no trading Schneider, we need him now to rest Luongo for the playoffs and perhaps to bail out Luongo in the playoffs. The time to win is now so we can't trade him. Eddie Lack is not playing that well right now.

Tanev is no game changer like Schneider, he is a depth guy, number 5 to 8, not a top 4 D man or he would be on the team right now.

yes, I agree he isn't a top 4 D man yet, but more of a player than just a 'call up' guy. If he was a bit
tougher, he might have replaced someone by now, but it seems he will not ever be a heavy tough guy, but
he will be very tough between the ears, and somewhere along the way he will find a D partner, could be
ballard again, as he is playing very well right now, and they could be together next year again on the
canucks.

I am also looking forward to keven canaughton, probably next year, a very good offensive D man, and
he might quietly come onto the canucks and dazzle all of us.

For me right now, my focus is on the presidents' cup, now is the time to start watching that race, a
very close one, a number of teams could accomplish that, and as much as many scoff at that trophy,
and that accomplishment, I enjoy it, it is something to fight for before the playoffs, and a goal
to reach, and a very difficult mountain to climb.

well, it wasn't boring, thats for sure, I stuck with it right to the end, and saw everything from
total feebleness to highly motivated and tough play from the canucks.

I sure like the move from vineault to split up the twins, its about time, their play of late has been
very dissapointing, and as soon as he did that to start the 3rd period, the game perked up for the
canucks, and good things began to happen.

the wings did nothing to surprise me, they were their usual selves, and played accordingly.

higgins has the flu, but should be back next game.
mason raymond looked better tonight

detroit 4 canucks 3 in a shoot out.

canucks players looked poor in the shoot out, but anything can happen then, so
thats just the way it goes.
so, at least canucks came away with 1 point after all that.

saturday afternoon in colorado, next game.

Canucks Avalanche

Preview Canucks-Avalanche Preview Associated Press

Following a lackluster effort to close out a long homestand, the Vancouver Canucks could turn things around very quickly against a team that hasn't scored against them in nearly a year.

The Canucks look to extend their lengthy shutout streak over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon at the Pepsi Center.

Vancouver (31-15-5) begins a four-game road trip looking to increase its 10-point lead in the Northwest Division over Minnesota, the biggest advantage among the six division leaders.

Facing Colorado (26-25-2) could provide a positive start to a swing highlighted by three matchups with Northwest rivals. Vancouver won 3-0 on Nov. 23 in Denver and 6-0 at home over the Avalanche on Dec. 6.

The Canucks haven't given up a goal to Colorado in 167 minutes, 13 seconds since Matt Duchene scored midway through the first period of the Avs' 4-2 loss on March 16. Duchene has been out since Dec. 30 with a knee injury, and the Avalanche have gone 6-7-1 without him.

Vancouver split its six-game homestand after losing 4-3 in a shootout to Detroit on Thursday in a battle between the Western Conference's top two clubs. Roberto Luongo stopped 40 shots but allowed two goals in the tiebreaker.

"We got taken to school," said coach Alain Vigneault, whose team fell to 3-0-5 in shootouts. "It was obvious to everybody. Obviously, we can play a lot better. That's no secret to anybody that knows our team."

Though Luongo is 20-10-5 with a 2.41 goals-against average, he may be watching Cory Schneider start in net Saturday.

Schneider stopped 24 shots against Colorado in November and combined with Luongo to make 33 saves in the December meeting. Schneider has won his last four starts to improve to 11-5-0 with a 2.28 GAA.

Daniel Sedin had a hat trick - all off assists from twin brother Henrik - to help beat the Avs in December. They were held without a point in the first matchup.

Colorado dropped its season-high fourth straight after falling 1-0 to Minnesota on Thursday despite a 37-21 shots advantage.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere gave up the game's only goal early in the first period as the Avalanche were blanked for the eighth time.

Colorado is outside the top eight in the West for a playoff berth but sits only three points behind the Wild for the final spot.

"We have to stay positive because if we play more games like this, we're going to win more games than we lose," said Giguere, whose playing time against the Canucks this season has been limited to just over 10 minutes in place of Semyon Varlamov during the December matchup.

Varlamov is 0-2-0 with a 4.39 GAA versus the Canucks this season, stopping 41 of 49 shots. He's surrendered 13 goals while losing each of his last three starts.

Giguere hasn't fared much better when facing the Canucks in recent years. He's 0-3-0 with a 4.29 GAA in five games, including four starts, since defeating them March 11, 2007, while with Anaheim.

The Avs are 1 for 9 with the man advantage during their skid. They've failed to score on nine power-play chances versus Vancouver in 2011-12.

Colorado coach Joe Sacco needs one win for 100 in his career.

The Canucks were outshot by a wide margin and luongo kept them in the game.....Then Bieksa also kept them in the game
when he blocked a sure goal with his body and scored the tying goal. Raymond scored the only goal in the shoot out to give
Vancouver the win. By the end of the game I could barely stand watching them.

Sure glad the Canucks managed to pull that rabbit out of the hat. Big kudos to Bieksa for the sliding stop and the goal to take the game to OT.............and thank heavens for Raymond and Lu. Wasn't a stellar night for the team but they got the two points and that's all that counts ........for now.

With you I thought hockey is a religion!

no,can't take my hockey there, must give it a better name. Hockey is a love of mine,
has been since I was a child,(8 yrs old) approx., listening to danny gallavan calling a game on the radio, and I
began to listen, all by myself, and by the end of the game I had adopted the montreal canadiens
as my favourite team, and never looked back. That game was so exciting, and I wonder why I didn't pick
the toronto maple leafs, whom they were playing, just didn't seem right. I was very wise in those days,
at the age of 8, no one in my family ever mentioned the NHL, or listened to hockey.
No such thing as television, only 6 teams in the NHL, I was so lucky to have found them, they gave my
life some depth, something other than my little circle, and even then the few little friends of mine knew
nothing of my hockey team (s), and had no desire to, and most of my friends now still seem the same, (although I have made
a point of not having many), guess i'm not much different than when I was 8.

That's the boys..............another one never in doubt.
Well when it was 3 - 3 and the Predators kept on coming, I did have a moment of doubt, JLM. ;-)

Byron Bitz sure had a good night, didn't he - the smile on his face after his first goal could have lit up the rink.

Got a real kick out of the acrobatics that both Lu and Pekka exhibited in some of their stops last night - now that's entertainment.

I can see why there is so much talk about the Predators, JLM, they are really fun to watch............though maybe not if one is a die-hard Canuck fan. LOL!

Good game for the Canucks and now they are what - only one point behind Detroit? - looks real good on them. Nice to see Ryan Kesler getting back into his game.
