It's a tax disguised as fee for service. Small price to pay for freedom. We could live in Bermuda or the USA.

Really?

Yeah... this tax is for Canadian freedom! The more they make you Canucks pay exuberant fees, the freer you are!

Lovely...simply lovely.

A passport from Canada costs $85 or more from the US or Bermuda, for a document that is only good for 5 years. This cost is way out of line, compared to other countries.

Can anyone explain just WHY the fees are so high?
could it be because of the cost of terrorism?

More for a Drivers Licence? Last renewal was $50 for the licence and $10 for the air endorsement - but that was four years ago....

Yes but to get it initially is far more expensive. Tests etc.

I never went for one though. I just got a pass port as its more useful to me.

I was heading to Texas for a business trip. I found out that since I had misplaced my citizenship card and had a UK passport I would have to get an entry visa and may have issues at customs. I talked to passport Canada and found out they can produce a 1 year passport in 3 days with nothing more than my DL and a photo if I had my plane ticket in hand. It cost me $110 and I can swap it for a 5 year before it expires if I complete the form and submit the required info.

Not bad to be able to travel for a year by producing only your DL and a plane ticket.

What is this citizenship card? I heard it listed as an acceptable form of ID the other day but not before this. I mean I have my SIN, my driver's license and passport but I have no idea what this thing is...
