Is Pepper Spray Humane In Breaking Up Protests

They should be free to voice their concerns for however long that takes, then they should shut up and go home. Most people have enough smarts to absorb their points the first time.

Did you actually say that???? Maybe since you have voiced your concern here you should now shut up and go away. It can hardly be called freedom of speech if you can only say something once. It is not freedom of assembly if armed thugs can pepper spray you or worse because their bosses don't like what you have to say as a group. Really that is what this is all about nowadays. If the government doesn't like what you have to say, if it disagrees with the government agenda, they send in armed police to trample your rights and cause you physical harm if you don't comply. We are living in nothing more than a dictatorial police state....that simple!!

What a crock of B.S. However I've changed my mind on the matter they can assembly up to 25 times and speak as often as they want.................................but after the first time it's in your living room!

Isn't it the habits of the lower 99% that help to create the wealthy one percent?

Habits? I'm not quite sure. Certainly very few if any of the wealthiest one percent got that way without a good deal of help from the less fortunate 99%.

I find your selective contempt interesting. Since you have championed restricting freedom of speech for commentary/action you don't agree with.

Purchasing/consumption habits.

I find it disingenuous of a group of people lashing out at the 'man'. While suckling at the 'mans' system.

Hey Bear. Long time no argue, LOL. Hope all is well with you.

I have to say upon further reflection that my position on the previous debate you reference was probably greatly influenced by emotion and my personal political beliefs and that I was incorrect in my determination and arguments. You are quite right that I can't have it both ways. ;-)

a peaceful protest is NOT peacefull once the occupying group refuses to 'get out' .
You seem to be missing the whole point of protest. Civil disobedience is about not doing as your told and not following the rules!!!!

in vancouver they are now settled in on very expensive real estate, completely forgotton what the protest was all about,
and they should be booted out very quickly
Those poor bankers can't exploit the land for profit right now....BooHoo

I understand in vancouver they are being assisted in finding other places to stay
Somewhere out of the way and out of sight no doubt.

but if they continue to refuse to move, then yes, pepper spray them, what they are doing is a form of violence and they
are forcing others to use heavier methods of removing them.
There is nothing violent about what they are doing at all. You might as well start using pepper spray when someone is already using a park bench you want to sit on or in a parking spot you want to use. If peper spray and batons are the acceptable answer when people express disagreement with the powers that be you are endorsing a police state.

who do they think they are.
They think they are normal, everyday people who disagree with the government policy of supporting corporatism. People claiming their rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. People trying to raise awareness of how our governments are no longer representing citizens but representing corporations and banks.

That is fine, Nick and for a long time no one tried to suppress that, But once the point is made, then they should abandon the site so others may use it. Otherwise it's just plain selfishness!

UC Davis occupy protester admits police were PROVOKED in pepper spray incident:

" Well we were protesting together and the riot cops came at us and we linked arms and sat down peacefully to protest their presence on our campus. And then at one point they were – we had encircled them and they were trying to leave and they were trying to clear a path. And so we sat down, linked arms and said that if they wanted to clear the path they would have to go through us. But we were on the ground, you know, heads down and all I could see was people telling me to cover my head, protect myself and put my head down. And the next thing I know we were pepper-sprayed," the protester told Amy Goodman of "Democracy Now."

I guess the whole crux of the matter depends on whether they were occupying public property or private property. If they were occupying private property with the owner's permission the cops had no business being there, if it was public property the cops were in the right.

I think protesters should carry pepper spray, billy clubs and shields to protect themselves from police brutality. Everybody believes in equality, how about a level playing field?

If only protesters could be more peaceful when they try to get their message to the world but some of them like to break things and cause trouble.

Well, it is winter. I think there might be bylaws regarding open fires
in some of these city parks though.
Not to mention the 'not contained' part if the 'fire' is running around screaming that he is on fire.

Name one Stanley Cup riot that caused less damage than any WS Theme protest? The message will have gotten through when the Government starts throwing crooked bankers, crooked politicians, and crooked businessmen in jail with the rest of the 'scammers'.

The cops using pepper spray should be arrested for feeding the homeless since FOX declared pepper a food. Rules is rulez

Yep, we hear a lot about police brutality and there is no doubt quite a few of them are pretty brutal, but the majority are just trying to do their job in a professional manner and honestly for a normal person there is only so much sh*t they can take or be expected to take and being spat on, sworn at and called "pigs" shouldn't be part of it. They are not all like Mantler.

Of course not all police are brutal. But that's no reason to be complacent when some of them are. The policeman in the video has clearly crossed a line and should deal with the consequences of physically assaulting non violent protesters.

Actually being members of the public they had every right to be on public land. I can't believe how many people either forget or don't realize that public land and property doesn't belong to a government but to every individual person. The governments simply administer the maintenance of public property...we the people own it.

The message will have gotten through when the Government starts throwing crooked bankers, crooked politicians, and crooked businessmen in jail with the rest of the scammers

Ain't that the truth. They already know the message they are just sh*t scared to do it!!
