Representative Joe Walsh (R) recently announced that the Family Research Council action committee had named him a "True Blue" member of Congress for his "unwavering commitment and consistent support in defense of life and the family," this despite a suit for over $100,000 in unpaid child support, and despite two electoral campaigns where he ran as a pro-choice candidate against liberal opponents in liberal districts:
In 1996 when I ran [for Congress] against [liberal Democrat] Sid Yates, I was a pro-choice Republican. And if you are a pro-choice Republican, you are called moderate, no matter where you stand on any other issue. I have always been very libertarian and very limited government. So on the fiscal side, there’s never been a change. On the social stuff, look when I ran in ’96 and ‘98 I was a huge gun guy. [Walsh ran unsuccessfully in 1998 against Democrat Jeffrey Schoenberg for a seat in the Illinois House of Representatives.] I’ve always been hardcore to the right. The only difference was that in ‘96 and ‘98 I was pro-choice on abortion.
 wacky

One thing they both have in common. Both did not deserve the award.

“We thank Congressman Walsh who has voted consistently to defend faith, family and freedom,” FRCA President Tony Perkins said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “Congressman Walsh and other ‘True Blue Members’ have voted to repeal Obamacare, de-fund Planned Parenthood, end government funding for abortion within the health care law, uphold the Defense of Marriage Act, and continue support for school choice. I applaud their commitment to uphold the institutions of marriage and family.”

Whether that makes the award wacky or not, I don't know. Don't really care actually.

But...

“Tell us what it is and then let’s move on and talk about what you’re doing for the country,” Walsh said, according to the Washington Post. “Everybody’s got stuff. Your profession’s got to grow up. We as politicians need to grow up. The American people need to grow up.”

As a politician, he says some pretty pertinent things.

I don't care what party he represents.

I don't care what his views on the issues are.

If he truly owes that much in unpaid child support (ergo if he has not been supporting his children), then by my way of thinking, he's a prick.

Yes but he is anti abortion so that makes him a hero to the fundies. Never mind that he does not believe that the father should contribute to raising his kids.

Works for the fundamentalists and religious. Afterall, God was an absentee father.

It's that special kind of con logic that goes: "Well your guy did it, so it's okay."

A more appropriate example would be something like: "Well ze Lieberals misspent taxpayer money, so it's okay when the conservatives do it."

And yes, Obama's declaration of peace via Nobel is indeed hilarious.

Even a blind squirrel some times can find a nut. I think the majority of politicians would qualify as blind squirrels...
Ya, I guess it doesn't matter that it's actually true, and hit 6 for 6.

It's that special kind of con logic that goes: "Well your guy did it, so it's okay."
The Conservatives don't have a lock on it pumpkin.

Ummm, ya...
