I suspect you don't have to accept these so-called smart meters. The utility companies need access to your property to install them, the existing meters are not on easements where you're legally required to allow access, they're on your private property. You'd need professional legal advice to get it right, but I'm pretty sure you can deny them the access they need to install the new meters.

Don't you have yours yet? They installed mine two years ago already. BTW utilities don't need your permission to enter your yard to change equipment they own.

No I don't have one. I know in general that the utility companies don't need your permission, but I think a case could probably be made because of the nature of the smart meters. They can identify individual devices operating in the home, monitor household activity and occupancy, transmit wireless signals that can be intercepted, and so on. They're surveillance devices, in other words, which require informed consent from the people under surveillance, unless there's sufficient evidence of criminal activity to justify a warrant.

What are the health concerns?

The anti everything crowd are claiming that the microwaves used to transmit data to Hydro may be damaging to your health. Apparently their cordless land phones and the smart phone every member of their families use constantly and their favorite radio station do not have this problem.
