Keep in mind, this is the CBC after all. ;-)

The United States is looking at building fences along the border with Canada to help keep out terrorists and other criminals.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has proposed the use of "fencing and other barriers" on the 49th parallel to manage "trouble spots where passage of cross-border violators is difficult to control."
The border service is also pondering options including a beefed-up technological presence through increased use of radar, sensors, cameras, drones and vehicle scanners. In addition, it might continue to improve or expand customs facilities at ports of entry.

What would it matter if it's from the CBC, the intro line states that "The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has proposed the use of "fencing and other bar....."

Not a single terrorist attack against the US originated from Canada.

Building a completely pointless wall sounds lucrative. So how do I bid on this contract to build fences? Under NAFTA, Canadians have the right to bid on US contracts, in the same way that the US had the right to buy Canadian oil.

I'm curious though....How is the US going to pay for this completely useless wall? Their creditworthiness isn't that good. I'd want a cash advance first.

If they keep the costs to themselves, go nuts.

I agree, but it seems like a ridiculous idea to begin with. Hopefully they don't put a fence in front of the proposed oil pipeline, wouldn't want to have to divert it west and sell it to China. 8O

They just need to build a pipeline that goes over a fence. :)

If they're worried about terrorism from our side of the border, giant tubes filled with petrochemicals just seems like a dumb idea.

haha, tether it a hot air balloon perhaps

The US has the largest suppy of helium in the world. We started producing it during WWI for military blimps and haven't stopped. One of those "pork" things that our government enjoys so much.

You should send some of your politicians into space with all that helium, cya!

Yeah. that'll be the day eh. Not in any of our lifetimes.

Doods might put up a few more cameras and such but unless this is a humungous TARP project gone mad, it ain't gonna happen. ;-)

One would think that with the current economic problems the U.S. has, the last thing they need is a 50 bilion dollar
fence along the border with Canada. Maybe this is just a thing to create jobs.....Phoney jobs, but jobs all the same.

This fence would cross a couple mountain ranges. What do the fence builders do when they run into a sheer rock wall fifteen hundred feet or more high?

U.S. has no plans to set up ‘selective fencing’ along Canada-U.S. border - The Globe and Mail

The United States government insists it has no plans to put up a fence along parts of the Canada-U.S. border, despite a report that contemplates exactly that.

The report from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency put forward the possibility of fencing the border to deter illegal crossings. The fencing would be far less extensive than exists on the U.S.-Mexico border. Other tools could include deploying more remote sensors and upgrading checkpoints.
